Congratulations! I tend to agree with your assessment.

In my own case, my favorite switches are 55g and 45g Topre, IBM capacitive buckling spring (Model F), Matias Click, and Matias Quiet Click. Even better: silenced 55g and 45g Topre.

My all-time favorite board (thus far) is a black HHKB Pro 2 modded with 55g domes, Silencing Rings, and Topre blue alphanumeric keycaps with blank black mods and black spacebar.

Enjoy!

My apologies if I promised to message you; I don't recall this. In any event, Round 2 has been up and running for a while now on eBay, and currently the price is disounted 20%. I announced this sale via updates to the original threads on GH and DT.

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Keep with the stock HHKB. I've been through a million boards (MX, ML, ALPS, Topre and nearly all variations) while my wife stayed solid with hers the whole way through. Now I just use what she started with.

If you are def wanting something else and you love the Topre feel, skip the Novatouch and go with the 55g Realforce as the feel is a bit different because of the slight difference in tactility and the plate.

Bought a Realforce 87U with 55g domes, and I share the same sentiments. I couldn't be happier! Now it's my daily driver at the office, and I look forward to typing all the e-mails and notes from the meetings! Who knew Topre would improve productivity.  :))

Welcome to the club! I purchased my first topre board about a year ago (hhkb pro 2) and haven't looked back. My ONLY complaint is the lack of custom keycaps / sets. I seriously want to deck this board out, but there just aren't many options out there - basically a first world problem... :)

I have a Novatouch. I've put my Silencing Rings in it, which made a dramatic improvement. At present, I have the Granite set on it. Granite looks beautiful, but I have trouble typing on spherical tops and a flat DSA profile. I am still searching for the ideal keycaps for the NT, but I think they will be PBT in a relatively high and sculpted profile, such as OEM.

In comparison, Topre keycaps "just work" with Torpe switches, and I much prefer the Topre profile and cylindrical tops for typing. My favorite boards are the HHKB Pro 2 and RF87UB55; I have installed Silencing Rings in both of them. The boards look, sound, and feel great, and my typing on them is fast and accurate. The only other boards that come close IMO are those with IBM Model F and certain types of Alps or Alps-like switches.

Try Tai Hao PBT doubleshots.  They are cheap, but actually not bad.
