which layout do you need?

60% = HHKB/ FC660
87/104% = Realforce

Anyway best thock feeling goes from hhkb 45g> realforce 55g

both keyboard have great resell value

never heard of fc660

FC660c is plate mounted, so that's why some people compare it to the Realforce. I believe the HHKB is unique in this regard. None of the non-PFU options will feel like the HHKB.

If you don't need a dedicated function row, I think the FC660c has the most interesting layout. Less compromised than the HHKB. Also a bit easier to find keycaps for, if you ever do MX compatible sliders. I'd love to try one myself, but I have no preference in regards to plate vs not plate mounted.

I think that for 45g, the HHKB feels best.  I have yet to try an FC660C, but that will come in the future.  The Realforce 55g is a great keyboard, absolutely loved it.  I had swapped 55g domes into my old HHKB, and hated it.  At first it was nice, but over time I never used it.  I ended up selling it because I didn't think I liked Topre anymore.  Since then I have bought another HHKB, and it has been my daily for the past week.  I think it will stay my daily for a while too.  A lot of this is personal opinion, and many may not agree with me.  But if you do try 55g, don't think that it will feel better in the HHKB since it may not.  Some people like it, but I don't.

I love my HHKB Type-S! I bought a Realforce 55g but I couldn't stand it sound like I was pinging the steel plate the whole time. I swapped the 55 into my HHKB and it is like my dream board. It is super snappy and quite and I don't mi**** letters which I did with my 45g HHKB. This of course is an expensive and time consuming.

If you don't want to spend a lot on a higher priced realforce, you can't go wrong with a used novatouch on /r/Mechmarket

My bbv2 is topre stem though maybe if I get for cheap and get a topre stem...

I am pretty sure novatouch are topre compatible as well.

If you didn't like the Realforce, you won't like the FC660C and you'll hate the Novatouch.  I tried the Realforce AE, hated it.  Tried the FC660C and could only type on it comfortably when buzzed (it was the best non-HHKB of the bunch).  Tried the Novatouch, hated it and its loud rattling noises.  Tried the HHKB Type-S, fell in love.  While the FC660C would be perfect for use at work for me, the HHKB is the best feeling of the bunch.  Again, that's my subjective experience, but given what you've said, I think you'll probably have similar feelings as I do.

Must have been an assumption I made when I first heard they were coming out. It boasted MX compatibility I assumed it would retain the ability to use Topre caps. It never interested me so I guess I never looked into it more than that.  :-X

I had a realforce and a hhkb together and literary used the Realforce twice I think.  Not sure why I even considered it.  I wish the topre font was like cherry's

That font would be awesome. Seems we are opposites...haha. If you end up getting a Novatouch I would gladly swap one of my Realforce sliders with you.

I'm getting my HHKB delivered today, but the only experience I've had so far with Topre has been Novatouch and it's not been awesome. It just feels like I'm trying to run in sand, sluggish typing. Can't quite explain it

while the novatouch doesn't sound remotely as good as the hhkb, i'm not sure you'd like the hhkb if you didn't like the feel of the novatouch. Question: Why did you buy a hhkb if you don't seem to like topre switches? I mean, there's nothing wrong with not liking a particular switch.

This is what's weird, I just got my HHKB delivered like 15 minutes ago and I'm absolutely in love with it. Like, I can see myself using this as my daily driver with no issues. The reason I don't like the Novatouch might have something to do with the weight. It just doesn't seem like the keys come back up that fast after activated, so it feels like I'm using a lot of force to push them down and they're not rebounding that fast. So like I mentioned, running in sand.

I think HHKB's are awesome and saw one for a good deal so I snagged it. If I didn't like it, I would sell it, but I think I'm keeping this one. The Novatouch... I'm not sure. It's nice at work since all my other boards are 60% but I'm still unsure how I feel about it.

Thank you!! Maybe the silencing has something to do with it. It has a silencing mod done and it's SO nice. Huge fan of this board, just gonna type ridiculously long posts now to get my mileage out of it.

That's in the mail...  :))

I ended up bidding on one on eBay, and before the auction ended I got impatient and bought this one on reddit... THEN I ended up winning the auction. Oh well, I'll give it to my buddy who has yet to feel the joy of a mechanical board.

I used Hypersphere's rings. They are pretty nice, I prefer them to the EK landing pads.

For the record, Topre stemmed keycaps will slip onto a Novatouch slider, but will not snap in. In other words, turn you keyboard upside down, and they fall off. I even attempted it this morning for kicks.

The Novatouch only feels different on bottoming out. They're still Topre made domes, so keypress itself is identical. The springs might not be gold plated, like in the HHKB and Realforce though, can't remember offhand. Shouldn't really matter. And the reason the Novatouch feels different on bottoming out is because of the case. Technically, the sliders will be slightly heavier, due to the MX stem in the middle, but its probably only a gram or so. I can weigh one when I get home.

The sound is completely different, as the acoustics of the case are different. Doesn't sound bad to me with silencing rings installed.

That said, the HHKB is a bit nicer to type on, IMO. The Novatouch isn't bad by any means, I quite enjoy using it, the HHKB is just slightly better. If I could only have one, I'd opt for the HHKB. If I could have two, and wanted two smaller boards, I'd go HHKB and FC600c. Objective as it is, there's my opinion :)

Of course, the real answer is to get one of each.  :p

That was what I had thought but I don't have a Novatouch to test it on. Wouldn't be good for a keyset, should work ok for an artisan though. Thanks.

But many Topre artisan stems are filled in to make them less prone to breaking.
