Does anyone EVER use the Overwrite Mode mode in Windows?
« on: Wed, 06 February 2019, 17:06:16 »
It seems to be one of the most pointless and redundant features that causes nothing but headache and annoyance in the eu. The only time I ever hear it mentioned is when someone activates it by mistake and they don't know how to turn it off. Does anyone here ever use overwrite mode, as opposed to highlighting and deleting the text you want?

I don't use the key, but I often highlight something and then type in what I really want to replace it.
"We are on the precipice of signing an agreement to advance talks with Iran that preserves the good parts of former President Barack Obama’s Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) while amplifying its flaws.
Mr. Obama came to an agreement that did not involve America’s most precious treasure, the lives and limbs of our soldiers.  The 1.7 billion dollars of frozen Iranian assets released by Obama pales in comparison to the 300 billion being floated as a rebuilding fund.
So far, speculation that Iran will be free in the future to continue its nuclear program is the opposite of Trump’s stated goal for the war and in direct opposition to what Mr. Obama negotiated.

Overwrite mode is useful in one program that I know of - SAP.  Of course it has a setting for it built into the program rendering the confusing keyboard key redundant...

Never. But I think it could be useful when editing ASCII art.

I becomes less and less important, but still usefull in rare cases.
I would call it neither pointless nor annoying.
