Replacing Blackwidow keycaps on a Novatouch
« on: Mon, 09 November 2015, 20:25:08 »
My blackwidow recently died so I decided to buy the barebones novatouch on massdrop and use the blackwidow keycaps on it. However, I realized after the fact that blackwidow keycaps have non standard sizing on the bottom row.

What size keycaps would fit the bottom row of the novatouch, and do you have any inexpensive reccomendations on where to buy them?

uh, what is it...

1.25 - 1.25 - 1.25 - 6.25 - 1.25 - 1.25 - 1.25 - 1.25 (Edit: 6.25 not 6.5)

Tai Hao keycaps are nice to get started with. Cheapish and they're doubleshot (thin ABS though) so the letters wont wear out.

I Probably have some stock QuickFire Rapid or possibly my stock novatouch keycaps if you'd like to have those for the cost of shipping.

Allows you the time to save up money for some decent keycaps :)

1.25 - 1.25 - 1.25 - 6.5 - 1.25 - 1.25 - 1.25 - 1.25

The bottom row in the main typing section should add up to 15 units.
With what you just posted, that would give you 15.25 which obviously wouldn't fit.

Should be 1.5 - 1 - 1.5 - 6 1.5 - 1 - 1 - 1.5. It's essentially Tsangan + 1.

6x keycaps aren't very standard at all but you can get them individually here.

EDIT: Oops. I am dumb. Novatouches use a standard bottom row with a 6.25 spacebar. That layout I listed was for the Blackwidow.
6.25 spacebars are very common and the link I posted will still have what you need.

Yeah you're still right about the Tao Hao caps. They're highly affordable and good for the price. Though if you were to get a novatouch I would expect you to purchase something higher in quality.

Exactly. I have my Novatouch with my GMK TA and it feels great. Tai Haos arent gonna cut it.

The stock keycaps are decent, so that could at least hold him over for a bit.

If not, maybe some Gateron PBTs will do the job, though they're blank :P

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
