O rings for DSA Caps
« on: Sat, 12 December 2015, 02:53:43 »
Hey guys, will the WASD blue o rings do anything to reduce travel on DSA caps? Or do I need larger o rings? Thank you for the input.

As suicidal_orange said, WASD blue O-rings are too thin - they are 1.8mm thick.

So you have two options available :

- Use 3.0mm thick O-rings - they'll fit DSA keycaps like a glove but won't be compatible with Cherry & OEM profile keycaps.
- Use two O-rings on top of each others (1.5mm + 2.5mm) like this :

That trick will almost do the same job and you'll be able to use the 1.5mm thick O-rings with "low-profile" keycaps (made by CherryCorp - JTK - GMK - IMSTO or BSP) and both (1.5mm or 2.5mm thick) with OEM profile keycaps.

EDIT : BTW I forgot to announce it over here at Geekhack but I'm now offering "soft" O-rings (in 40A durometer) directly from my store : lpwl.bigcartel.com

No moaaaar classifieds.

Or you can use the trampoline mode with either o-ring segments or silicon balls, it is very effective and more elegant than o-rings.

Sorry for the dumb question... but Option #1 is 3mm and Option #2 adds up to 4mm. Is there something I'm missing?

P.s. I'm having this problem too. Recently acquired a used set of DSA Dolch and only have 1.8mm o-rings on hand. Needless to say, they don't work at all.

You missed one small detail !

Both options are placing O-rings at different heights on the keycap.

In other words, the 1.5mm thick O-rings (from Option #2) are just there to provide support to the 2.5mm thick ones.

Haha ... even with pictures, I don't know if I succeeded in explaining this well !  ;D

Thank you both Harms & suicidal_orange for your support !
