Das Keyboard III (Professional) on PS/2?
« on: Sun, 27 December 2009, 01:06:22 »
So I got myself a Das Keyboard Professional for Christmas, my first tactile switch keyboard, and I love it... the only problem I have with it is the 6-key rollover limitation imposed by USB.  Is there any way possible to use this keyboard with PS/2 and get full n-key rollover?  It doesn't flat out support a standard USB -> PS/2 adapter though.  Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Nope. The newer model does, but not the Das 3.

PS/2 to USB is not a straight forward process. For all intents and purposes - if the keyboard doesn't come with a PS/2 to USB adapter in the box, it cant be done.

Only the most recent DAS III S version can give full n-key rollover over PS/2. That one had teething problems, though, I've yet to see a review/test of the fixed revision.

The older version (non-'S') is USB only.

But remember the USB limitation is 6 keys plus modifiers. You can press ANY combination of 6 keys plus Ctrl/Alt/Shift safely. That isn't a bad limitation really.

Also the DAS III (old) has an odd way of handling 12 keys at once - it repeatedly sends codes for the first six, then the other keys are sent, and it alternates these. It appears to the PC as if you are hammering away at those (up to) 12 keys. If you really need more than 6 keypresses at once, then it might help. It might not. Like I said, it's an odd workaround.

Alright then, thanks!  I use my keyboard for rhythm games, and being able to press 8 at a time is sometimes necessary but I guess that's not a big issue.  It's still a dream to type on compared to my crappy-ass rubber dome Logitech Internet Navigator.

I've already got a dedicated controller with arcade buttons, the keyboard is just for whenever I don't feel like going all out :D
