I have no idea how I managed to miss that first time around... Either way, I don't think it's a valid arguments for the obsolescence of mechanical keyboards.

the first time i watched it, i didn't watch it all the way through and also missed the results.

i don't think anybody's saying mechanical keyboards are obsolete, but the video does show that you certainly don't need a mechanical keyboard to type fast.  and it renders the 'what is the fastest switch for touch typing' question moot.  it's not about the switch, it's about the person sitting at the keyboard.

Oh, that's true. I can probably type as quickly on my laptop keyboard as I can on most if not all of my mechanicals, but there's other issues to consider such as comfort, accuracy and reliability.

Fast typing as well as all the fine arts require proper practice. I think that if you practice on a specific keyboard you will going to excel in speed typing especially in this very keyboard.
This law is called "The Law of Specificity" and applies on every side of human performance (sports, art etc).

*** It would be nice (as long as scientific) to search all the world records or Top-100 performances in touch typing and try to find out what kind of keyboards were used. If it proves statistically significant after then we can say for sure that there are some specific keyboards for the speed work.

Till then, let's find the keyboard that suits us better and practice, practice, practice!
