MAD-MAX themed keyboard! Need help with keycaps
« on: Sun, 01 January 2017, 09:02:29 »
I have a crazy idea to make a mad max inspired keyboard.
I plan to have a skeleton plate for top and bottom, and give them a rusted pattern.  Then use the sack cloth to cover the open sides.

Using orange/red led for fire style underglow.

Now I am stuck at keycaps.
Are there any existing brown translucent keycaps?
I am open to other options.
I plan to use a brown gateron

I don't think there are. Maybe you would be better off buying a white set and making them really dirty? See Pexon's post about his Fallout 4 themed 60% build. :D

Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

I did a pseudo-rustic version but did not alter the key caps.

A dirty/stained/bloody dye job would be easy with PBT caps, use plastic tape for dye-resist areas and markers or paint markers for "damage".

That's a nice build.
But it has a lot more keys. What pcb/board have you used? Or is it all self wired?

EDIT: I have found the info on that keyboard.

There's this. You'd need to buy the entire board, though.
Unicomp Classic | Chicony KB-5181 (Monterey Blues) | IBM Model M (1391401) | IBM XT Model F | IBM AT Model F | Dell AT101W | 122-key IBM Model F
IBM Model M13 | Apple Extended Keyboard | Apple Extended Keyboard II | MTEK K104 | NTC KB-6251/2 | Realforce 87U | Realforce 104U | Type Heaven

It is not a "build" it is a Model F 122-key terminal without the plastic case shell. I did not change anything electrical, I only added a Teensy.
