Suggestions on how to repair damage on Aluminum case

Hi there! I received a Klippe from the second hand market, and unfortunately I discovered a dent on the upper left hand corner of the case (was not disclosed by seller). Have you guys had any such experience and did you have any success with any sort of repair? I'm thinking about filing down the burr, filling the corner and have some powder coating work done, or maybe even a cerakote.

This doesn't answer your question, but if I were the seller, I'd be giving you a full refund and paying your return shipping cost or a partial refund to make up for the damage. (It's possible that happened during shipping, you'd be surprised at what can happen to aluminum boards through what appears to be tough packaging.)

I think filing down the burr, stripping the existing anodizing, sandblasting, and reanodizing is going to give you the best result. However, that's going to cost a lot for what was intended to be a simple, relatively inexpensive case.

your idea is right.  smooth it and then fill it in.  anything you powdercoat is going to have to withstand 400-450 degrees f and be able to take an electric charge.  jb weld can be used, the part just needs to be heated before applying the powder.

The seller I bought it from was almost combative and claimed that he did not see any dents before shipping out, and even sent me a picture as “proof”, but didn’t really prove anything, other than the fact that he somehow covered that part of the case consciously?  https://m.imgur.com/8Mtx9CQ. Even if he were telling the truth, the thing came without much bubblewrap to protect it, so he should be kind enough to offer some sort of compensation for it, but no this guy was brutal.

I was too late to catch the original GB and when I caught this on mechmarket I couldn’t pass up the offer. You got a point about how it’s almost not worth the effort to try to repair a relatively inexpensive case. Well now I guess I have to live with the dent or use it as an expensive paperweight or doorstop. If it ends up like that I may send him a pic of it to show how much his kindness was appreciated.

Look at the packaging he put the case in. There are thin foam linings and a deflated bubble wrap. Obviously not enough to protect the heavy case from sliding around. Now the case may not have any dent when it was in his hands. But he packed it inadequately, and the case probably had a nasty bump while in transit. I feel he should be responsible for it.

That's definitely enough to prove how poorly it was packaged. File a dispute.

i'm surprised the case is in that condition at all, it could have been much worse with that level of packaging

This, even manufacturers fail to get this.
Seems they all like to think the shipping companies treat everything like a baby, when in reality they tend to treat everything like a basketball and throw it about.

Sad thing was the guy I bought it from had a lot of confirmed trades at r/MM. And he even stated in his sale page: "... All kits secured with wraps, foams, and airbags."  But for some reason he shipped the case out with barely any cushion. I wonder how all his other trades went? Anyway, I went ahead and filed a dispute. Lesson learnt for me, perhaps I should just stick to GBs.
