IBM part number 1390416: Model M or Model F?
« on: Tue, 02 April 2019, 09:18:43 »
This is currently on sale:

The keyboard looks like my 122 key Model M, but those modifiers look like Model F keys.

They are asking 200€, which is a bit too much I think.

Is it worth that?

TIA

Not worth it. I'd pay like a quarter of that price if I wanted one.

Stepped modifiers were not unheard of on early M-122's, especially where they were going in as cost effective replacements for F-122's.

My silver badge M-122 has a 1390587 p/n. I haven't been able to find any info on the 1390416, but assuming that the last digit of the p/n changes with the layout of the keyboard and searching for 1390411 it seems that the 1390411 keyboard came with the IBM 3191 Display Station and that it is indeed an early Model M.

According to Chyrosran22, the fastest way to tell apart F-122 and M-122 is looking at the back of the keyboard, which is made of metal in the F and plastic in the M. This makes it also a M-122.

Finally, this DT post shows a keyboard with p/n 1390413 which is almost identical and has the same stepped modifiers. It is also a M-122 according to this.

I bought a 122 Model M with stepped modifiers on Ebay a while back and was able to find a little info. Here's the thread.

I have never seen an F with the right-angle plug or an M with a straight plug with screw threads.
"Some aspects of Drumpf's malignant narcissism helped him consolidate power in the past (lacking a conscience, especially), but other features of the incurable disorder will now send him on a downward spiral. He won’t be able to stop himself from lashing out — even at people who could help him — and he won’t be able to stop himself from continuing to commit crimes. He will not be able to stop himself from reacting to perceived slights, even when attacking people he thinks slighted him can come back to bite him bigly. In short, he will ultimately take himself down. Although the forces of justice will succeed in due course, I think he will speed things up with his uncontrollable malignant narcissistic decompensating.
Drumpf’s declining state of mind is more evident every day; and the only people who continue to support him are the MAGA crowd. That’s not enough support to win the election, luckily."

But, on a lighter note:  a 2023 video from the Heritage Foundation said that, “conservatives have to lead the way in restoring sex to its true purpose, and ending recreational sex and senseless use of birth control pills.”

The oldest M122s have the straight plug with the screw threads.
