In my experience, the keycaps, case, and plate play a huge role in the sound a switch makes while typing. I have a YD68 with aluminum plate in an aluminum Tofu case with Aliaz switches and PMK PBT SA Ice Caps and the sound is *divine*. The switches themselves are quite silent, but the other parts in combination make for a soft, clean popping sound that is addictive. I tried to replicate this on a different aluminum case (enameled), with an aluminum plate and the same switches and keycaps, but it didn't sound nearly as nice. And if I put those same switches/keycaps on my Preonic in a wood case, they sound even worse.
P.S. My HHKB with Silence-X rings is my favorite typing sound though.
