My first keyboard!

Just got my Vortex Pok3r today! First keyboard in a step away from retail brands. Ive always used a fullsize keyboard so typing on this is an adjustment haha  :confused: but so far I'm in love. I have a few sets of GMKs coming towards the end of the year too. I've been on this forum for 3 days and I've already learned by first hand experience what "wallet hack" is.

Next board will for sure be a TKL but I really like the sizing of the 60% I'm just quickly learning that patience is a virtue in this hobby :/
Two key sets coming the end of the year. I'm like super into some of the novelties I've seen too. But yes, very happy :)

Welcome to the site & hobby Crab202!  :) Pok3r's are a pretty nice off the shelf boards that got a lot of us started down the rabbit hole of the higher end of the hobby LOL! A Pok3r with MX Clears was my first 60% TBH. Wait till you get your first GMK set & see how much better they are than the stock caps! Trust me here will be a hue difference in feel there. What sets you got ordered BTW? Currently I'm just waiting on GMK Jamon right now, but there are a few GBs going on currently & soon I'm hoping to join. GMK Olive & GMK Oblivion at the top of the list. Any plans on getting into building you own boards? To me that is the best part of the hobby. Whether I'm building a super limited high end custom kit or a cheap mass produced kit, whether those builds are for me or someone else, I just love the feel of successfully building a great feeling & sounding board! Albeit lubing/tuning switches & stabilizers is kinda a rabbit hole within a rabbit hole, although that could be said about a bunch of other aspects of our hobby like collecting artisan caps, vintage boards/switches, high end Korean boards/high end boards in general, etc.

Best advice i can give you about getting into this hobby is take it slow, hone in on your preferences of switch types, finding your favorite layouts, & practice switch/stabilizer tuning techniques/mods to find your preferences there before jumping into higher end builds (let's consider over $400 total higher end). Thankfully now more than ever there plentiful cheaper options for kits in many different layouts. Anyways hope to see you around the site & GL with figure those things out! :thumb:

Thanks for the warm welcome and advice! I’m currently waiting on my full set of GMK Mizu’s. I also ordered the GMK Samurai’s. Currently I’m on the cherry mx red silent switches and next I’m trying the cherry Browns. I saw a few websites with switch sample packs so I was thinking of doing that to see if I have a real preference but I’m like super into novelty and artisan caps for the most part. My old room mate who kind of threw me into the hole of keyboards here actually said he’d help me out with my first custom build once I have more of a grasp on what kind of profile and switches I like so for now I’m just kind of trying out different things. But yeah for now I’m just waiting on my mizus, I’m super excited about those. And I want to save the samurais for a tkl board with cherry brown switches. I loooove my 60% but I like the idea of having arrow keys for more room to put artisans lol. So far my only artisan is a wood/resin cap from amazon which isn’t like...amazing...but I like it for what it is. I’m really digging the hammerhead artisans on GB currently too

You always remember your first one.

Mine was a Ducky Shine (first edition) MX blue with red LEDs.

I still have it - it is connected to a work PC I use when I work from home.  It still works.

Not quite as fancy as OP's first proper keyboard, but the sees has been sown.  Possibilities have been opened. The future awaits ...

Wow the poker has gotten a nice facelift! My first was also a poker 2 with mx clears non led I bought from anthony! I loved it! Except for the fact that you had to desolder the led holes to put leds in (they made sure it wasn’t easy).

My opinion on keycaps is that GMK's are a huge upgrade, but nothing beats SA. They have a well rounded shape which produces a comfortable feel, have bassier key clacks, and they are endorsed by chryosan (big fan of him) as the best keycaps you can get on a mechanical keyboard. Congrats!
