Mechanical keyboard for general use
« on: Fri, 05 July 2019, 21:44:41 »
Now that there are offers, I decided to take advantage of opting for a mechanical keyboard and remove my old membrane keyboard, so I do not know which switches will be the best for general use (write, play ... etc)

The options (in offer) are:

- Razer Blackwidow Elite (switch green)

- Razer blackwidow 2019 (switch green)

- Razer Huntsman (optomechanical switches)

- Krom kernel (network switch)

- Logitech G513 (Switch Romer-G)

- Ozone Strike Battle Spectra (Cherry MX Red)

- None, I would choose another keyboard with other switches

I hope you can help me choose it and the reason why they chose it.

Thank you!

You would be much better served with a Leopold, Varmilo or Ducky keyboard. They are of vastly higher quality and around the same price point.

- Krom kernel (network switch)
Never heard of that one before ... but what a name! :))

Older 16-bit computers had their "kernels" (operating systems) in "ROM", for instance the "Amiga ROM Kernel".
A network switch is what connects multiple computers in a network.

In my opinion, the ones that you should go for are Varmilio, Ducky and Vortex. They make decent 60% boards .

I personally recommend the Vortex Poker or Anne Pro.

Just about all keyboards are for "general use" unless the target market is some kind of wannabe l33t gamer who buys marketing hype.

And... none of the above. Razer has a reputation for making garbage keyboards for wannabee l33t gamerz. Logitech is an... acquired taste.

Just go to your nearest big computer store, try to figure out if you like tactile vs non-tactile, clicky vs not, and get something from a non-gaming company with your preferred switch type. Absolutely nobody can tell you which switches to get, it's 100% personal preference. It's like a stranger asking you what colour car they should buy.

For build quality, Leopold and Ducky are hard to go wrong with.
