Quest for the perfect keyboard: Foreign edition!

Hello my fellow GH bros,

Some might remember me asking for a GH convention so we can all try different type of keyboards from this topic: http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?t=9302. Alas, I never really follow through with the planning T_T. But that's because, I took the matter into my own hands.

I am currently in Asia on a quest for the perfect keyboard for me :D

Here is what I have found so far. Please comment! Let me know if my findings are Yay or Nay. Will purchase depending on your comments ^^

1) Cherry keyboard from Reuter. $70 HKD, which is about $10 USD. 2 pics.

I agree, Cherry MY switches are dreadful. I typed on them once for five minutes, and I can say for sure that the only keyboard with worse feel is my sister's MacBook chiclet keyboard. They're awful in different ways, but both are awful.

The MY on G81 boards... It's like a heavy linear switch that bottoms out into thick mud. Bluuurgh.

lmao... so im guessing theyre worse than blacks? mind you i happen to like blacks especially if i get it plate mounted.

I like blacks too and I can tell you that MY switches are by far the worst ever typing experience. Imagine a black with sand in the keyswitch or bubblegum stuck under the keycap. Thats MY.

Are the good series of Cherry keyboards the G80's? This may help the OP.
Also, are there some G84's that are also the good switches? Info is a little hard to pin down but I know some of you know about it.

G80s are the ones with MX switches.

G81 are MY, which are horrible.

G83 are rubber domes

G84 are ML switches, which are better than MY, but not as good as MX. They're low-profile and have issues with sticking.

G86 are mainly rubber dome, with a (very) few MX thrown in

J-series are scissor-switch.

Sounds like a definite NAY. Thanks for the input guys!

It's pouring outside right now. Will go out later today when the weather clears. I will keep you guys posted with my findings :D

Sounds like a fun adventure =)

Do stay away from the MYs if you can help it though. I too think they are dreadful. I too dig cherry blacks but the MYs are nothing like them. I think the examples of them in this thread are really spot on! Sad but true!!!!

Push your fingers into your mattress and without fully releasing your fingers try and type into it. Ewwwww...

Hi everyone!

New update: Now flying to Taiwan this weekend! I have NO IDEA where I can hit the Akihabara of keyboards in Taiwan. Anyone know?

Also, need recommendations on what to look for. I am personally trying to find something similar to a Siig Minitouch (i.e., Tenkeyless, but with US layout...basically the 'Enter' key being a horizontal block instead of the 'L' block, and the same horizontal block for backspace, and a similar but smaller horizontal block key for backslash)

I will keep you guys updated with pictures :D
