Bought a Novatouch a while ago to try EC switches. I was very disappointed with the feel and even more with the wobble. I was excited to try an SA set on it and I was shocked how mushy and wobbly it was.
I sold it a while ago for way less money than what they go for now. Anyway I'll give Topre another try now with a Realforce I just bought

Yeah, I was really stoked for my first Novatouch but was grossly let down once I put GMKs on it. I ended up trading it for a FC660C that I also ended up parting with (I should probably update my GH sig).
I've since bought another Novatouch because I got it at a great price but I don't plan on using it. At least, not at stock.. it's going to need at least silencing rings and maybe a dome swap..

I'm considering selling it to get a FC980C, though.

In terms of actual usability, I found MX Blacks were hardest to type on, just a huge learning curve to get used to reliable key actuation.

But in terms of aesthetics and being unpleasant to use, pretty much any MX/clone clicky switch. There's something about the high pitched noise that they make that is very, very grating. Every keypress reminds me that I am using a switch with what I regard as a fundamental design flaw or compromise built into it.

It technically is, and it was a collaboration with PFU and CoolerMaster to try introducing it outside of Japan.
I'm not sure exactly how the partnership worked because the Topre name is not used at all on CM's site or anywhere on the keyboard/box.

The parts are also interchangeable with Topre keyboards like the sliders and the domes.
It just feels like crap because of the construction of the board and the sliders are too short.
I've used a Norbatouch and it feels a lot better with the metal case, but I just don't enjoy using a Novatouch in general.

Agreed, but the Topre logo IS stamped on the PCB though. So you'd have to really dig into the keyboard to find out Topre's involvement.

Easy. Brown Hi-tek 725s. Scratchy, sticky, and irredeemable the second any debris touches them. Horrid to the bone.

Are you sure about scratchiness? Of all the complaint I have with Membrane BuS smoothness is definitely not one of them, and the Ms I've tried so far are all consistent in this aspect as well, heck the biggest virtue of Membrane BuS over Capacitive ones I've found are their off center smoothness and smoothness consistency.

I'll definitely not be alone in saying this: Cherry MY (White slider type in an MY8000).

"MY" can only be an acronym for "Mistype Yuckiness".

Even with switches that aren't my taste, I can still type fairly agreeably and accurately on them. But MY genuinely irritates and affects my typing efficiency. It's not even the stiffness, but something in the overall force curve and actuation point that leads to frequent missed presses.

some very cheap 18USD keyboard with non-retooled reds. I guess you get what you paid for. I was amazed that reds could feel more scratchy suddenly than browns or some stock clears.

on the other hand I picked up one of the first wyse keyboards from 1983(!!!) for about the same price with vintage blacks and they were actually buttery smooth (only thing smoother I tried were actually lubed or contactless switches).

The KBPV60 with Matias Quiet Clicks. Jesus, those switches sound terrible, the board had chattering issues, they keycaps were made out of wet newspaper, the stabilizers sounded like chipmunks shivering, and the case was so light i could blow it around my desk.

I have to agree with you there.  I bought one after reading that it was "inspired" (or some other marketing crap) by the old Apple Extended Keyboard II.  I have a pair of AEK IIs, and even after all these years, they're a million times better to type on than a Matias Quiet Click keyboard.

I rather liked the FC980C but the metal plate and the rattly sound of the switches and stabs just really put me off of it. Lubing and silencing didn't really provide much of a benefit compiled with the barely tactile light rubber domes.

FC980C is dank. Would always recommend. My favorite work board by a mile. If you need the num pad, and like topre, it's a no brainer.

I'm okay with the metal plate but it does make the Leopolds more harsh compared to the HHKB and RF.
I'm getting the silenced version (purple sliders) which also come with 30g domes.. which I will promptly replace with BKE lights for some tactility anyway. Should be good.
