Hi frens, the plates are in. They fit perfectly and I'm very happy with the quality from the PCB shop.

Uni students get a whole week off for mental health (Read: Keyboard GBs) in Canada, so I'll have time to get these things all cleaned up, threaded inserts in, and check all the fits by hand. I plan to have them in the mail to Nachie by Monday.

Stay warm out there.

Andy

So, I've got good news and bad news.

Good news is that the plates and cases are en route to Nachie. Bad news is that Nachie is leaving on a long vacation the day they're set to arrive.

We got screwed over by the Canadian holiday and it messed with shipping times, but I've got a friend in California that I'm forwarding the box to, and he will do the last leg of fulfillment. He did a fine job with the ADK64, so I've got full faith there should be little to no delay with this hiccup.

Sorry everyone!

Assuming Nachie is sending the pcb's over to your friend as well?

At least these delays are giving me some good time to practice my switching lubing! Patience pays off.

They'll be going out in the next few days.

The contingency plan is also in place if the shipping Gods are not favorable

All shipping invoices are out. $6 for everyone except the one international guy.

Sorry for doing separate shipping invoices, but by waiting for Nachie to do it (he's got a shipping contract), everyone saved a couple bucks.

Get those paid!

Nachie is going to have the QMK stuff added in this week (hopefully before it gets delivered to anyone!) so that you can add your own layouts. It's flashed with the AEK numpad by default AFAIK.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On a personal note, that looks like the end of the GB once they get to y'all. I'd love to see some pictures so I can add them to my portfolio (stuff like this actually helps a lot for showing you are capable of doing stuff in internship interviews).

Questions and comments can be DM'd, in this thread or emailed to rndkbd@gmail.com

Enjoy your numpads everyone!

I don't even know what I'm doing 15 minutes from now...

Hoping to have the ADK64v2 designed over Christmas break, and then maybe a few weeks to prototype. I'm so busy with my final year that I can't do anything more than manage group buys ATM.

Mine was delivered today.

Stupid question - i received a ziploc bag of diodes - what are they for?

I also tried to test the PCB and zero response so AEK numpad firmware is not already flashed. I just checked QMK and Paladinpad v2 is not listed yet.

It looks like I'll need to wait until QMK is updated so that I can get the firmware installed and test the PCB before soldering on my switches.

I am pretty sure those diodes need to be soldered on to the pcb in order for it to work, this would solve both of your issues.

yes. the diodes are needed. if not, one leg of the switch is not connected to the matrix, so nothing will register.
the diodes are directional. think of them as a one way valve, electricity can only flow one direction. there is an anode and a cathode (see diagram below)
230619-0

the stripe of the diode (the cathode) gets soldered to the square pad on the pcb. all of the ones that the labels begin with D underscore "D_" are where you put the diodes.
230620-1
thanks kairuwu for the pics

it helps to pre bend the legs down to go through the holes

if you solder in your diodes before your switches, you'll be able to test the pcb before soldering the switches in.
you could actually test it without the diodes, but you'd need to short one of the switch pins to the square diode pin.

Have mine soldered and ready to complete after the qmk goes up. Can't wait to put it to use Monday at work. Anyone know how to change the colors?

Thanks for this info - i was scratching my head wondering why the numlock key doesn't work. :D

Does your .(Del) key work? Mine doesn't, but I can't spot any issues in my soldering. Tried shorting both diode contacts and switch contacts to no avail.

Here is the stuff for the paladinpad to put into your own QMK folder if you're savvy. I've bugged Nachie about getting it merged into the main fork ASAP.

Num lock is the function layer, and the dot doesn't work off the hop, as his default hex has the wrong keycode. This is a known issue, and the file in the zippyshare link is updated to fix this (literally just swapping a KC_PDOT and KC_NO).

The function layer is here:

Everything works for me. I'm not too hardware savvy about this (am a software dev, never touched hw until now), but to check I had my wife activate switches while using a voltmeter to check each was working.

Received everything a couple of days ago. Looks great. This will actually be my first venture with soldering --- purchased a soldering setup and everything needed yesterday. Purchased some mill max hotswap sockets in hopes that I can convert the pcb to hotswap and from what I can tell I believe they should fit in just fine.

Purchased this:
https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/mill-max-manufacturing-corp/7305-0-15-15-47-27-10-0/ED1039-ND/1765737

Can't wait for the sockets to come in the mail so I can get to building!

I did notice one rough corner on the case and was curious if this material took to sanding well. If so I might take some super fine grit to it to smooth it out. Any thoughts?

Yeah, it was sort of a compromise that had to be made to get the very smooth curve. I tried using some 2000 grit on it And it did smooth out, but the black sandpaper did end up depositing a little bit of material in the plastic, and I couldn't get it out with water + a brush, so proceed at your own risk.

Edit: Thanks Nevin - this works much better.

I've got the diodes soldered and PCB tested to a degree. Beyond the Fn and ./Del key, I also have one or two other switch slots that register a test, but doesn't show character input on keyboardtester.com. I'm going to pause here and wait for paladinpad v2 to show up on QMK configurator. Hoping that will get done soon-ish.

Thanks for the timely fulfillment and responses on email/forum.

It's flashed for the AEK Alps layout, so if you're using MX you might get some incompatibility with the default flashed layout.

I'm terribly sorry we didn't get the QMK ready to go. I can flash you a hex if you send me a KLE if I can help you out that way :)

It's not a huge issue so no need to be apologize, Andy. I'm doing things I haven't done before and learning along the way, and I'm grateful for your willingness to help figure things out.

I've confirmed that current configuration is different from the standard numpad, with some keys configured differently (/ key is configured for NumpadEqual), and some keys do not appear to be configured at all (- key and . key). I will be happy to take up your offer of providing a hex file, but I do not know how to create a KLE file. Would it suffice to say that I'm looking for a standard-ish numpad as depicted in the attached picture?

playing with the firmware....
- updated my build environment (took a minute....)
- initially the hex was too large on the first default make
- changes made to paladinpad/rules.mk
Code: [Select]
EXTRAKEY_ENABLE ?= no # Audio control and System control(+450)
AUDIO_ENABLE ?= no
   - this got it down to an acceptable file size and there is not a speaker installed at (P1) by default anyway (you'd have to buy one and solder it in)

- also started a WIN/PC keymap but want to test it before i post it
- i'll also post both versions (mac, pc) of the hex files for others as well as makeup a KLE graphic of the keymaps

@Oni74 - numlock is currently running in the firmware you have, but it's accessed by holding Fn + Ent = NumLock (Fn is top left).
- the 2u plus will be adjusted for the win/pc version
- your proposed "5" for Fn + 5 = NumLock is already taken by one of the LED controls (RGB_SAD)

ah got it - didn't look into the existing settings since it isn't usable.

Can you u/l the pc version of the hex file? I'd like to flash mine to thoroughly test all the switch locations - i'm particularly concerned about the - key as it doesn't respond at all at this time.

Compare the PC to AEK numpad layout and you'll see the - is shifted too, so it shouldn't be a hardware problem. I'll get a PC hex flashed this afternoon.

Edit: PC layout .hex attached. Compiled using the firmware avail in the thread, but still use at your own risk.

Thanks, Andy. With the hex file you uploaded, i can confirm that the . key is now working. We still have the issue on the top row where we have /,*,- keys are showing up as NumpadEqual,/,*.
