SIIG Minitouch - Can the spare key be mapped?
« on: Wed, 09 June 2010, 07:53:56 »
I just ordered a SIIG Minitouch (GH version) and was
wondering if the spare key works or can be mapped?

Thank you!

Using AHK you can do a lot of things.  There are plenty of AHK ninjas on this site that can make any key do just about anything.

Thank you, Now I'm like a kid waiting for Christmas.

It has been a long time since I had a decent keyboard.
(I foolishly gave away my Northgate OmniKey).

Recently I realized I really missed having a good
keyboard; this one should fit the bill very nicely.

Yes, I have them mapped on all my computers with sharp keys to the Japanese henkan key which drops a menu down and lets you select different types of kanji/katakana from what you type. Very useful.

It's been a long week .....

I forgot to mention that the box it will be on is running Linux

Edit:

in linux I can map macros, so I'll just wait until it comes in then try it.

Google around, the blank key can be remapped using xmodmap, the keycode is 94 as reported by xev.

Use something like "xmodmap -e 'keycode 94=Delete'", put it in a script and run that script on startup.

I gust got the keyboard in today and I found the perfect function for my spare key

"Mute"

When someone comes in to ask me something I can mute my speakers with one keystroke.

That's actually a really good idea, one that I would use often.  I remap capslock to ctrl so I have 2 left control keys and really like that, but I think I'm going to add the mute remap as well.  Thanks for the suggestion!

My new mapping on the spare key:

Spare = Mute
Ctrl Spare =Vol Down
Alt Spare = Vol Up
