Gateron Yellows, blacks or something else?
« on: Fri, 01 November 2019, 20:34:25 »
I am about to build my first mechanical keyboard, I don't know whether I should go with gateron yellows, blacks, or something else I don't think the difference between 55g and 50g matters too much to me although I would slightly prefer 55g. I am wondering which one feels and sounds nicer.  If I could make it sound similar to this
that would be great. Thanks!

the thing with linear is that they do not make much noises by themselves, unlike clicky the only noise is the bottom out in both direction so keycaps and cases are the ones that will change the noise the most, the description says it uses GMK caps and the title says that it uses the LZ CLS case:https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=87239.0 .
So if you want a similar sound i would start with a tkl alu case, with weight (as the LZ CLS), add the foam liner and apply the mod described in the description of the video to your linear of choice and you should get pretty close (not identical most likely but close)

Cherry Retooled Blacks for sound, Gateron for smoothness. If you dont want to buy springs go Gateron. If you want them to feel and sound better, go Cherry. Definitely lube them with 3204.

Switch housings still make a very large difference in the sound.

What I proved, there're 3 linear switches that like me the most (totally subjective).

1- Tealios V2
2- Gateron Yellow
3- Novelkeys x Kailh Cream

That's not only about the feelings with the stem/leaf/spring. What I like the most is the upstroke ping sound. Every switch has its own frecuency sound in that part. Of course this completly change with some lube, but even with that, the feeling is different. All I can say is, try to prove some switches in different situations (cases, springs, lubing, even the mousepad affect...)
