Looking for the o-rings on the Logitech G710+
« on: Wed, 13 November 2019, 19:20:43 »
Hello everyone,

I have recently built a custom ergodox keyboard, and while waiting for keycaps to arrive, substituted the keycaps from my old Logitech G710+. I found that the bottoming out on these keycaps is much less loud than using my new keycap set, and have confirmed that this is, unsurprisingly, due to the o-rings.

While I'm not a fan of o-rings by any means, I find that the black o-rings specific to the G710+ are actually palatable. I think this is because they're really stiff and thus aren't mushy, while being thin enough to not remove any of the travel. I am considering putting them on my ergodox, but would like to find something comparable. As of yet, I've tried a few o-ring sets I could find, but they're all mushy and generally unpleasant.

I was wondering if anyone knew which o-rings Logitech used for this keyboard, or whether any more information is known on the subject.

Welcome to geekhack :)

O-rings are sold with a hardness rating - higher numbers are harder, lower softer.  Most keyboarders go for soft ones (the softest are 40A, most 50A) so you might want to look for another use for o-rings and buy from a supplier for that.  I found some 70A ones cheap enough on a site which sells bearings but you'll surely find somewhere in Canada with cheaper shipping.  Standard thin ones for keyboards are about 5mm inner diameter and 8mm outer diameter though some are much bigger outer.

Good luck!
