[IC] !!Custom mechanical macro pad!!
« on: Fri, 15 November 2019, 00:54:03 »
[/b][/b]I was recently searching to buy stuff for a DIY mechanical macro pad and I noticed that there aren't many parts or even fully built macro pads around. Is the community interested if I started making and selling custom mechanical macro pads on etsy? Talking about choosing your own switch, case type , keycaps.

There have been quite a few macro pads GBs including a Rama one right now. KBDfans also has one.

I think you need to demonstrate your abilities before people know if they have interest in what you’re making.

Do you have more info of how your macro pad would look like,  4x4?  3x4? etc.  like the above post said, there’s already a few out there you can buy. Here’s some links:

KP Republic has a macro pad (Cospad) in stock right now with multiple case options.

Also the Treasure 9 macropad is out there
F Keys belong on the left.

There are plenty of numpads and macropads available but I wanted something that mixed both. The only thing I found was a project on github (and an IC here for a split that could fit the bill).

https://github.com/dekuNukem/kbord

What I like about it the most it that it has different profiles and it has a screen to indicate each key binding. My plan is to leave it as a numpad most of the time and have profiles for debugging on the browser and IDE (step into, step out, etc), among other things.

The bad thing is that there is no case, the firmware is not qmk, switching between layers is done with tactile buttons mounted on the pcb. Still, I’ve sent an order to a pcb manu and will cut an acrylic case for it.

I think a slightly more polished version of it would fill a niche.
