Replacement top housing for Tealios
« on: Wed, 04 December 2019, 13:35:04 »
Hey, I haven't used Tealios in a pretty long time, but decided to have a go at them once again.
The level of smoothness in these switches is awesome, but the sounds that the top housing produces isn't as good.

Does anyone have any tips of what top housing I could replace them with? I don't want it to effect the smoothness in any way.

I tried using Vintage black tops (Not sure of how smooth they were assembled), and the sound was much better, unfortunately the feel was effected a lot by this. They were just not as smooth as the Tealios

I've used Cherry tops & Outemu Sky tops with Zealios which changed the sound for the better & really didn't affect the feel that much IMO. Although the tactile bump may distract from any scratchiness the different tops introduced, I couldn't say for sure how good they'd feel with Tealios. TBH, with Tealios I think it's kinda one or the other since they are so smooth at stock, super smooth with a not so great sound or better sound with a hit to the smoothness.

Just lube the tops with 3204 or 205g0.  They'll sound much better

That is a good point, I was just assuming OP was lubing his switches.

Yes I am lubing my switches (TBH I would never use switches unlubed anymore..). I feel like vintage blacks were a great match, so sad that it effects the smoothness ..

I believe tactile switches isn't as big of a deal as linears since the Tactile bump covers up a lot of inconsistensies.

Gateron black Inks could be a potential option if the pricetag would't be that high, and because of the current state of the loose top problem they fall out.

Cherry tops makes everything sound better.

Agreed, the problem is that they're too scratchy for my liking :(

Gateron Milky tops maybe. I got Gateron switches with milky tops in my A17 and they sound pretty nice. maybe you should try that.

I actually tried using Gateron milky tops on my vintage blacks (Also on a A17 lol) and it was a pretty nice sound, but I am looking for more of "thocky" sound, the gateron milky tops make a pretty high pitched noise IMO.

Maybe I just need to find me some good vintage black tops... :/
