Get your bintin hats on for what possibly looks like an early Model M listed on eBay Germany? A nice item for the Euro boys to bint on, €25 to start at and the vendor ships world wide. It looks ripe for a clean up and a resale.

The cat is out of the bag for all you binters who hoped this would be a secret steal !!

Bint On !!

I am speechless. How in the world did you come to even the suspicion that this is a Model F?

DB did a copy-paste job for his two recent threads...still no excuse, this is a Model M, not even remotely like an F in appearance, but we all make mistakes.

I was going to get out the brandishing iron and say the same thing lol.

Yeh dirty bint, cannye nay see thissbe a Model M laddie?

Yuck, and it's missing the LED panel and has the old AT cord. They're cool because they're black and more curly? But that's about it. Mine would have had the same type of cord, but my stupid school lost it somewhere.

Kishy, I realized that later, but I saw this post first.

DB, may I know what bint means? It's not in any dictionaries I can find and I'm not a native speaker. It seems to be a universal verb for you.

The label is ripped, but it is a Model M P/N 1390123, or equivalent.

It's a silly european model M. Layout is terrible. Why can't europeans use a PROPER US layout?

There's an argument to be made for continental languages that need dedicated keys for accented vowels (then again, a lot of programmers from said countries use the US layout because their native layouts put symbol keys in stupid places).

Then there's things like the UK/Irish layout which is basically the US layout, except with some subtle and pointless changes to be awkward...

Try a "google", us "Bints" can use the word as we please, nouns, verbs, adjectives, you name it, we bint it.

I can type in Russian perfectly on a normal US layout (I guess one could say that's ironic).... I don't even need to see where the characters are. So if people are too stupid to memorize the extra symbols, then, they shouldn't be using a computer.

There's only ONE layout. All the rest suck.

Exactly. To go back to EIBM's point - the Russian keyboard layout is also ANSI... but then again, Russian doesn't use a lot of accented vowels AFAIK, whereas something like French uses them so often than relying on deadkeys or Alt-Gr would become excruciating. Try learning every language in the world, typing it on your US keyboard, and get back to us with your findings.

ё & Ё for example. It would be used in something like "Ёжик".

French sucks. Stupid french class, forcing us to take it. I'd rather... use a mac or a dell than be in french class, and that's saying something.

At least French is somewhat useful. We're still forced to learn Irish in schools because of the closet IRA mentality of the people who run our country.

Anyway, is this keyboard any good (as much as theorizing goes) ?
I'd go for it, but shipping is stupidly pricey: 25€ to anywhere besides Germany...

Given its age, the springs are probably worn out, and the rivets popped. Would need some refurbishing to return it to good shape.

EIBM, you seem to hate so much about Canada, so why don't you move to the US instead?

Oh right, Obama is making it too Canada-like (otherwise known as functional).

Him and MW could buy a shack together, drive around in a pickup truck and drink beer all day.

I must say, if I was ever to move elsewhere, it would probably be Canada. It seems to be the only semi-sane place that doesn't require learning another language.

The Pierre Trudeau reference ticked me off. Not everyone has to love Canada but you sure as hell don't knock Canada citing positive attributes, points that we're proud of, as reasons.

You, ch, would be welcome in Canada...Irish beer and all.

I am actually part french you know.
Obama doesn't know what he's doing, yeah, he's making it like when Canada was under Trudeau. Ruining the economy and causing inflation.

There are things that bother me about the states (I hate accents, not enough food variety, healthcare is expensive, etc) -- I'm actually quite satisfied where I live... just the rest of Canada has issues lol. That doesn't sound arrogant at all, no not at all.

As a teenager I was fairly proficient with Welsh (Despite being English, and brought up in Scotland). You tend to spray somewhat when speaking ;-) Some of the more unusual sounds really get people, and separates recent arrivals very quickly. For instance, Any ideas how you would go about pronouncing "Llangollen"? (The name of a town fairly close to me).

Learning French, Welsh etcetera can be useful in certain circumstances. When I was a child, I had to learn Latin and it wasn't an option.

Latin is extremely useful. You can read the writings of Francis Bacon, Edward de Vere, King James I, George Buchanan, and whoever else.

Here you go!

Quote
Idem Latinč.

Ausę, insigne nefas, bello ultro ciere tonantem,
Mars sese accinxit, metuenda tot agmina nunquam,
Visa ferunt, properare truces miro ordine turmę,
Nosque mari & terra sęuo clasere duello,
Exitium diraque minantes strage ruinam;
Irrita sed tristi lugent conamina sine:
Nam laceras iecit ventus ludibria puppes,
Et mersit rapidis turgescens montibus ęquor.
Fœlix communi qui euasit clade superstes,
Dum reliquos misero, deglutit abyssus hiatu.

Vanos Ioua sacro conatus risit Olympo.

Dirty Bint

Fondness for sheep? Only if they are at the edge of a cliff... they push back then.

Almost right... the double L's are pronounced by hissing "th" using the side of your teeth. It's not something that translates to text very well unless you have heard it before. Almost like a Lisp in some ways.  I suspect that a Youtube clip is unlikely to surface showing how it's pronounced. The double D's (in Rhuddlan for example) are far easier, it's pretty much plain old "th" in a similar way to how you would say "The".

And Welsh is useful... if you live in Wales, and work in Retail. A surprising number of people don't (or just plain won't) speak English.
