Real vs Fake Ricercar SPOS

See post #11, more details later in the thread too.

The bottom line is that the real cherry brown SPOS's are actually a very limited run, and are very rare.

The G86 is a line of rubber dome keyboards, so you really have to be careful to make sure that you are getting the ones that aren't really G86s.

The "Ricercar SPOS" keyboards all had incredibly low serial numbers, indicating it was a custom order from Cherry and not a standard keyboard.  The customer must have had a requirement or specification that caused cherry to use MX brown switches.

I'd say some company needed a lot of G86 POS keyboards, Cherry didn't have any to stock, so they just rebranded the G80 equivalent. IBM did that with some Model Ms to some extent

Nah..  it was an auction... somewhat mislabelled.  Funny thing is I contacted the seller beforehand and asked him to make a $10 buy it now price to try to get it before it ended and he refused, stating it was too low... then I offered $20 buy it now and he never responded.  So nobody bidded and I got it for starting bid at the last minute :)

gg elbowglue, those *****es usually go for 60-100 bucks.

Slightly off topic but has anyone actually tried the rubber dome (china) version? I have one and it's pretty fantastic. the sliders are all greased and the caps are spherical. No ****.

It's also quite a bit heavier than the ricercar SPOS... built like a tank. I highly recommend it if you can get one on the cheap.

I just bought one off ebay for my untangle box.  However, I was under the impression that all the g86s had cherry switches in them; but I saw it was Cherry branded and had an integrated touchpad and bought it.

ah man, I'm bummed I missed this auction, I would have paid more.  I very much need a shorter board for work and I can't afford a Filco tenkeyless right now, plus I'd rather have a ricercar SPOS, than the Filco, anyways.
