SS 6gv2 or Filco ?

Hi all
i want to buy a mechanical keyboard , but i dont know wich one to buy . 6gv2 use black cherry , and Filco use brown cherry .

I have read black are the best for playing games , but they are a little hard and need more strengh for pressing it , and not noisy  , and the actuation and release points are at the exact same position.  

And brown ones are easy to press and not too noisy . great for typing .

I am a gamer of counter-strike and other FPS , but i type a lot too , for homework , msn etc.... The black cherry are good for double typing(in game) , but they need more pressure , and i may be tired by using it for long hour front of my computer . I had heard too 6gv2 , SS have reduce the pressure of the cherry .But now i really dont know what to buy .. It's not really cheap to buy both :D..

Can someone give me advise? thx

the cheaper one would be the 6gv2 I guess, filco also has keyboards that use black switches, so they do not only use brown ones...

First I also thought about buying a filco or the 6gv2 but I can't really get a filco keyboard here in germany and also the layout would be us I guess...

The 6gv2 doesn't seem to come out very soon in germany, I saw some sellers have the us version available at around august 2010, so I thought how long will it take that they release a german layout then...

So it all depends in which country you live, I can purchase Cherry Keyboards very easily, so I guess my next one will be one of those...

So if you can easily get filco keyboards and have the money for them you can buy one with black switches for gaming purposes or you have to wait for the 6gv2...

Maybe there are more alternatives than just SteelSeries or Filco ?
There are Cherry MX Red switches kbds just recently became readily available on the Oriental market, if you prefer linear switches but with MX Brown's 45cN.
The Cherry G80-3494LYCUS, you may need to use the service of a buying agent to enable purchase.

i can buy easily 6gv2 and filco brown cherry .
i think i spend more time on gaming . when i play i play for hours.
but spend time on typing too , like surfing , msn , facebook , homework , report . because i am still student in university . when i do report i use type a lot too .....

But on blacck cherry , is the typing that bad?

edit : i cant buy red cherry in my country :S

As much as I like blacks - yes, for touch typing they're indeed that bad. For your usage profile I'd go with browns.

I used to play FPS games competitively on Black ALPS, which is somewhat similar to Cherry Browns. It was a good fit for me.

it's look like the brown is the best of typing and gaming too .... but if it's not as good as black cherry in fps games? :S

The reason why Cherry Blacks are recommended for gaming is because it's harder to actuate so you don't make any accidental keypresses. The later actuation point also has similar effect.

That said, I personally never had a problem playing a lot of Unreal Tournament on Black ALPS (kinda Cherry Brown equivalent) and I wouldn't have been able to play on Cherry Blacks as the higher actuation force can take a toll on your hands. Excessive typing and bad keyboards injuring my left hand is the main reason why I hardly ever game anymore and when I do, I can only do it on a Cherry Brown board or I'll have to stop after 30 minutes when my hand starts to hurt.

but the black actuation point and reset point is in the same place , the brown are separed ...
U get ur hand hurt by using black cherry? 0,0

If accidental presses aren't an issue, go with Cherry Browns. Don't get too worked up about actuation points. You probably wouldn't have noticed anything different if we didn't bring it up.

As for if you'll hurt your hands with the Blacks, I can't say. Everyone's body and activities are different, but the lower resistance of the Browns certainly won't hurt you.

I have various boards, but for me anything but Browns hurt if I use it too long.

And i am sure of what i am , i dont want an 6gv2 anymore i want a FILCO . But still dont know what cherry i want .... i want the comfort , but i want good precision and performance on typing and gaming ... I really want to buy an black , but , ppl say it need more pressure and that's its what i am afraid of ...

But the springs exchanged with the Compaq MX 11800 (Brown stems) £15 + £5 Shipping.

If you can purchase these two kbds:- (1) You can try out both types of switches.  (2) if you prefer, switch over the springs and you'll get Cherry Reds and heavier sort of Cherry Clears.
You'd only have spent approx 3rd of the cost of a Filco.

Maybe you should also consider the Raptor-Gaming K1, a Cherry MX1800 with German format.

That's correct. Cherry MX PDF page 2, "MX with pressure point ergonomic". Blacks and Browns both have actuation and reset points being virtually the same. The Blues have the two points at different depths of key travel.

I have 7G with blacks and it's better typing experience than any of the rubber domes I've ever owned. (I've owned various MS, Logitech and Saitek kbds)

The key with blacks is to not bottom out keys when typing.  But I'd say, whatever you do they will be better than any 'mainstream' rubber dome, eespecially 'gaming rubber domes'. So don't worry too much about it.

Wupps, my bad. I thought the Blacks had a later actuation point.

Decaler, I guess it's mostly just about how much resistance you want or don't want in your switches. Ripster says his son games using buckling springs and a few other people have reported being ok with buckling springs in gaming too. It just goes to show that personal preference is a big part of "high performance."

If you do a lot of gaming and/or a lot of typing that involves a lot of keypressing, I still think in the long run you'll be better off with lighter switches because there's no telling how your hands will be holding up 10-15 years from now.

sooo , i have find a way to test the different cherrry  , and i like the feeeling of black one , it's need more pressure but , the feeling is great  :D  for fast typing and gaming :D

I live in germany, too. I could sell to you the raptor k1 keyboard (german layout) with cherry mx blacks. ive recently bought it from ebay, but  after so many years playing RTS with the standard layout, i have a hard time getting used to it. (i have problems with the "alt" key and the F1-4 keys are to wide for me). Also the keyboard feels bulky, dont know if it is always the case with mechanical keyboards.

About the feel, it is very smooth when you press the key. Its linear with good resistance. i think mx blacks are also very good if you have to dash in games like gunz (but havnt tried it yet). Typing text feels little nicer than rubber domes imo.


The disadvantages of it to the 6gv2 are that it has only usb 1.1 hubs, does not support ps/2 (if this even is a bad thing) and has no media keys.

but i could sell it to you for less than 50€ + shipping. originally it costed like 140€, now 80€ at amazon, i got it for 45€ + shipping. I myself want the G6v2 now cause of the media keys and layout.
