Layout Help
« on: Tue, 25 February 2020, 01:56:57 »
I recently purchased a DZ60 pcb and a matching plate that has a 2u left shift. However, in terms of layout I'm not 100% sure it's what I wanted, in terms of my z-row (not sure which row # it is) I wanted my left shift, then my 10 alphas/symbols, and a right shift.

Is is possible to still have that layout even with a 2u left shift? I'm newer to the realm of keyboards so any tips would be great as well.

You can only put switches where there is a hole in the plate and a matching one in the PCB.  The pic I found of a DZ60 PCB has two sets of pads for each switch in that row and lots for both shift keys so you can desolder and move the switches to change it to any of the layouts available in the firmware.  If the plate has exactly 11 square alpha holes you can't convert it to 10 keys...

If in doubt post a link the plate you have or upload a pic.

Here's the link to the plate I purchased, it was plate A so it has a 2u left shift. I messaged KBD fans though because my order hasn't been fulfilled to see if I could get plate B instead. Hopefully it goes through and you can do gather more information with this link!

If you do get plate A you could have 10 alphas then 1u shift, up and FN, but you won't be able to use a standard big shift key as it's only 2.75u and the gap will be 3u (and there are no holes for the stabilisers) You'll have to look carefully when buying keycaps to check they cover the layout as well as getting used to the slightly shifted Z row and small right shift.

Plate B is standard and compatible with any keycap set so would be a better idea for your first board - hopefully they check their e-mails before sending it out!

I messaged KBDFans through their website, and they were able to change the plate from a 2u left shift to the 2.25u left shift free of charge! I'm hoping they get it right though because it won't appear on the website.
If worse comes to worse I can just return it for the other product. Appreciate the help!
