[IC]NEO Palette Carbon G67 - Gasket, Full Carbon Fiber 65% kit

Ladies and gentlemen, this is Patrick. I’m here to present you the second project of NEO Keys, Palette Carbon G67. Join discord (https://discord.gg/2MCKpQQ) for more updates and details.

The idea of building a full carbon fiber keyboard started from some random discussions in my discord server. Somebody suggested that I should build a carbon board just for fun, I did and it turned out to be pretty awesome.

Design is based off the last NEO Keys board Palette G67(IC: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=108630.msg2958210#msg2958210; GB: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=109107.msg2968989#msg2968989), an acrylic sandwich gasket mount keyboard.
Palette Carbon and Palette acrylic share the same:
1.   Switch plate
2.   PCB
3.   General dimension and typing angle
So if you already ordered a Palette, you can switch the plate/pcb between these two cases.

Different
1.   Much less color options, only 3k twill weave carbon fiber available.
2.   No top color display tab design, just a simple, clean and slim bezel frame.
3.   Chamfered corners and angled bottom.
4.   Gasket material, authentic Rogers Poron in stead of silicone + EVA

Palette Carbon G67 kit will include:
1.   Full carbon fiber case (4 layers of case body, 2 layers of feet), 1 extra acrylic bottom layer in the color of your choice.
2.   1.5mm carbon fiber or 1.5mm brass plate
3.   Hotswap or soldered PCB
4.   Poron Gasket strips
5.   Plate/PCB foam and PCB/case foam
6.   Silicone Feet
7.   Mounting hard wares and tools
8.   USB-C Cable
9.   Microfabric cloth

Hotswap PCB features:
ANSI only layout
per key RGB light
Underglow RGB lights
Center mounted USB port
North facing switches



Soldered PCB features:
ANSI/ISO compatible layout, split backspace and 7u spacebar supported
Ultra bright underglow RGB lights, 18xLEDs!
Center mounted USB port
South facing switches


Estimated price: $210-$220

So... this isn't an IC... My understanding is that you already confirmed that this will go into GB without getting feedback. I am so confused, why would this be posted here then? Am I mistaken?

I already confirmed that this project will go into GB. And before launch I'm happy to listen for feedbacks.

Good questions. Thank you.
Running a render now, I'll post some CAD screenshot on the feet design.
The bottom layer of feet is 6mm thick carbon plate, it will be clamped on an angled mount and then face milled.   
I did have a prototype built but a good friend took it away before I could take a photo...I'm waiting for the next prototype.

Patrick likes fast ICs+GBs with the fastest turnaround possible. He doesn’t like to post designs and have them stuck in IC for months so he designs and prototypes everything, gets some feedback from his discord server, and then posts a pretty much final design in his geekhack IC really just to give people an idea of what they’ll see in the group buy coming soon. If you would like to suggest any changes, you can tell him in discord or probably in another reply here and he’ll look into it. I think another reason for this fast IC is cause this is a really small project and really just a palette g67 (a board that finished GB a while back) adapted to carbon. instead of acrylic.

this seems like a pretty cool concept however i can imagine exposed fibers brushing against the skin would not be ideal. i hope quality assurance will ensure that there are no exposed fibers on the edges. i used to work with carbon fiber on aircraft and it is not fun getting that stuff in your skin.

I've worked with carbon a lot myself as well, in racing bike parts manufacturing for a decade, and currently doing some custom carbon archery parts and gears, most of which for children. So safety has always been my first priority dealing with carbon fiber.
My guy does edge finishing job very nicely, and I will personally clean them with alcohol before aseembly as well.

Could you confirm that this is ANSI only (ashame if so as ISO would have been sweet).
Also, with the renders, it looks as though you have RGB lighting going through the bottom plate but the renders also show a solid bottom plate Just a little confusing (ps. I like the RGB effect on the renders and wondered how it is going to shine through the bottom plate)

1. Hotswap pcb is ansi only and soldered pcb is ansi/iso compatible. more details updated in the main thread.
2. A 3mm acrylic bottom is included in the kit. You get to choose among 18 color options.
