Keyboard for under 60$ CAD?
« on: Wed, 15 April 2020, 15:52:16 »
I'm in need of a keyboard. I don't want to spend too much, but suck at browsing amazon and other sites.

I would like a full sized (if possible) keyboard with clacky (preferably something like mx blue) switches. I need the backlight to be red, RGB is fine too if it can switch to full red.

Thanks in advance!

It looks like CAD doesn't convert well against USD at the moment, so we're looking at $42.52 USD? You're almost definitely looking at Outemu blue switches at that point, which I actually like more than Cherry. Haven't been able to compare them against Gateron, etc. I wish you could go a bit more and get something with box whites, which are way better than any Cherry clicky, but such is life.

These are always very well-rated. They're about the only ones that are at the very tip top of your range, unless I could try a few more searches, since Amazon's search engine is literally garbage now, has been for years.

Redragon K551 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with Clicky Cherry MX Blue Switches Equivalent Steel Aluminum Series Vara 104 Keys Wired Computer Keyboard for Windows PC Games (Black RED LED Backlit)

I haven't used this exact keyboard, but I have a few similar "EasternTimes" and am surprised by their density/perceived quality, and the switches are much more tactile and crisp than Cherry MX. I have heard that people apparently run into consistency problems with them though. Can't be any worse than the garbage "Ajazz" switches in the AK33 that I paid another $10 extra for that felt like trash new out of the box.

Hey there!

I've been looking at this keyboard, and sadly, amazon charges WAY too much in Canada. Even though it's ~$40 in US, if you converted the CA price amazon gave me back to USD, it would actually be around $50.

If you don't want to find another one, that's ok.

Thanks!

Alright, I broadened my search to dig through a lot of less relevant boards to hopefully glean some that fit. This looks to fit the bill, for very cheap:

QQcute AM389001 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard, Elepawl USB Wired RGB Backlit Keyboard Full Size 104 Key for PC Computer Laptop Office - Blue Switches, Black

I don't know what the heck that's supposed to mean, but it sure is entertaining. The reviews are mostly positive, but also pretty sparse overall.

SIGNO RGB Gaming Keyboard Mechanical USB Wired Aluminum Body 21 Mode Rainbow LED Backlit 104 Key Anti-ghosting Computer PC Mac Gamers and Typist (KB-768)

It looks like only the KB-768 is mechanical in that link, interestingly, the box also says the switches are optical. No idea if that's true.

LESHP Mechanical Gaming Keyboard RGB LED 104 Backlit Anti-Ghosting Keys with Blue Switches and DIY Replaceable Switches

Another with sparse reviews. Being so cheap, and hot swappable, that seems to suggest to me that it at least has Outemu switches (avoid Ajazz/Zorro switches, they suck).

VicTsing Mechanical Gaming Keyboard – Full Outemu Blue Switches Computer Keyboard, Fantastic Backlit Keyboard with Ergonomic Wrist Rest, Full Anti-Ghosting Wired Keyboard for PC/MAC Games, Black

These are the same as my Easterntimes boards, I think, just RGB. Can't argue with this fantastic marketing:

I don't know about you, but I really want to be able to look like some kind of conceited/constipated Richie Rich from another timeline.

That's all I can find on Amazon without spending hours trying to figure out what is or is not mechanical on literally all Chinesium boards. The difficulty is finding cheap boards that are true RGB instead of just permanent rainbow vomit (since the Chinese somehow think that's appealing to ... somebody), combined with full size layouts (most boards at any price point are TKL, or smaller) with a potential for red LEDs. That's not a popular color, I know, since it is my favorite, so we're basically limited to true RGB.

I must thank you for your efforts. Sadly, once I go to the Canadian site for amazon, ALL of them say "currently unavailable" Thanks anyways though!

That's ridiculous. I have ordered things from Canada many times, the shipping times and prices have been almost identical to inside the continental U.S., though I'm already pretty close to the place, so maybe that helps. Maybe try Ebay?
