Labels for Model M Birth Certificate
« on: Mon, 28 June 2010, 17:16:00 »
I've been looking around for some precut clear overlay adhesive labels for the birth certificate area on my various Model Ms.

I haven't had much luck.  The birth certificate area is 4 5/8 x 2 1/2 inches, but I haven't seen any labels around this size.  As a fallback I'm going to buy http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002V1H5TA/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER and just cut the sheets to the right size.  I just kinda wondered if anyone had a line on precut ones.  I notice some of my older black-label Model Ms have nice clear overlay labels with rounded corners that cover the birth certificate perfectly while still leaving enough sticky stuff around the edges to just be able to stick to the plastic.  Those'd be nice to find.

PS: I think I'd rather be able to see the printing on the label until the end of time instead of running the risk of water screwing it up, even if the addition of the clear overlay means the keyboard isn't "original" anymore.  I'm kicking myself for just screwing up the birth certificates on three 42H1292s by running their bottom cases through the dishwasher with insufficient protection.  The birth dates are still on them but the production country info got washed away. :-(

At least you don't have to try and imitate the old school labels... they look quite fancy.

All three were made in Greenock.  Until I erased history, anyway. ;-)

I'm not sure what size exactly you'd have to make them, just make sure they go on upside down though!

now if Obama had thought of doing that, he might have saved himself a lot of trouble.

another option: Spray Fixative.

artists use this stuff on pencil drawings to fix the drawing and prevent smudges. Couldnt it work on model M labels and other printed labels?

I believe fixative comes in both a spray and a paint.  It comes off with nail polish remover or acetone (but then again, so might the ink on the label, so careful if you're trying to remove it). Tho i dont see why you'd want to remove it once you spray it; it should be transparent and barely noticeable while it protects the label.
