HHKB pro 3 classic build quality
« on: Fri, 24 April 2020, 07:16:34 »
I am going to get straight to the point, the case quality is absolute trash! I feel as if i drop it , it would break. Does anyone know the quality of plastic it is made out of ABS or PBT? Can anyone speak to the durability of these keyboard. I do like the typing and layout experience. But to me that is not worth the $230 asking price. I heard that they improved the build quality for the series 3 and that is the real reason i purchased it. But i can say from personnel experience i really do not see it. There needs to be better build quality for this board.

I have changed my opinion after further research and from the advise of typo. The case is not junk just lightweight. It is made of durable plastic. I now really enjoy the keyboard and will be keeping it.

It is ABS. ABS is actually stronger than PBT. PBT just does not shine is why we like it for caps. ABS is used on car engines. It is tougher than it looks. you can drop it from 5 feet high onto carpet no problem. It is not a Rama or OTD. It is in fact better than most $130 gaming boards . Hence the up to $350 price tag on topre. Topre/HHKB is not about the case but the typing experience. Still, the case is not "junk" as you state. It is better than many in fact.

Thank you for the feedback.  :-[ I  have done some research and it seems the HKKB series 3 has slightly better build quality then previous version. I should have done more research into how it was constructed but i figured it would be similar to the RF.I really like the board though and will keep it now based on the fact that it is made of strong plastic.

It is made in JAPAN too. JAPAN does not make junk. Quite frankly above Korean IMO. Plus ABS really is very strong stuff if formulated right, which it is.

They wouldn't make something as large as a case top out of PBT.  It's hard enough just to make a space bar that isn't warped.  ABS can take on all sorts of appearances and textures.

Just want to chime in and say that despite it being a "plastic" case it's part of what makes the HHKB typing and sound experience so unique compared to other Topre keyboards. My HHKB definitely feels and sounds different than the 660C I had before.
