Hello GH!

Hi Geekhack!

I’m glad I can find a place like this to discuss everything about keyboards. After ending up here a few times while searching for keyboard information I finally decided to join the club!

A little bit about myself: I’m currently a software developer living in California. My first keyboard is an HHKB type-s bought in 2015, but I haven’t used it a lot until I started working recently. Before then I was using only a full size filco ninja MX red mainly for fps gaming, and now I’m still using it for gaming at home and using the HHKB at my office.

Unfortunately last month I left my HHKB on my office desk and cannot get into the building because of work from home policy. Typing a lot of code on my filco at home makes me miss the topre feeling, so this week I bought a realforce pfu which is still on its way. Since I rarely use the HHKB for gaming (lack of arrow key), I’m not sure if the 45g topre is a worse gaming switch than the MX red, but I’m definitely more satisfied using it for coding. If I found the realforce not suitable for gaming I’ll probably use it at the office to replace the HHKB in the future, as it has arrow keys and numpad, both helping a lot for my work.

My main goal here is to look for good quality PBT topre keycaps, be it single keys or full sets, as they are just so hard to find. I’ve already swapped a full set of PBT MX keycaps for my filco since the original ABS caps were heavily worn. The HHKB and realforce keycaps are already PBT but they look kind of dull to me. There are a couple of good-looking HHKB caps online from KBDfans but that’s all I could find. Maybe group buy is the only way out?

Thanks for reading this. I’m happy to be part of the community and will appreciate any suggestions!

Welcome fellow orange fan :thumb:

Sadly there aren't any Topre keycaps, not even in group buys.  You can get MX sliders then you have options or if you got a white board/caps you could dye them yourself, if you're the DIY sort?

Thanks! I don’t think I’m capable of handling the dyeing process, but I am thinking about the sliders. Did some research and seems like the few top quality sliders are no longer available in the market. Maybe I can get a couple of those still available to try with. I’m mostly worried about degrading typing feelings and the connection of larger keycaps like space and shift.
