moderate-time lurker, finally a part of community!
« on: Sat, 09 May 2020, 16:05:04 »
Hey all! I am amazed at seeing the growth of the mechanical keyboard community, especially with the popularity of even the custom board community grow so rapidly in the past 2-3 years.

Many gamers (me included) switched over from popular brands (corsair, Logitech, Razer, HyperX) to less flashy (less rgb), niche companies like HHKB, Leopold, etc and never looked back.

Hack on, enthusiasts!

Hi click-clack-paddywhack (that's a great name). Welcome to Geekhack.

I got into mechanicals through Corsair myself, and still like the K65 and K70 very much. It is wonderful that such a market exists to grow our ranks.

What sort of switches have you tried? Which do you like?

Hey!!

I haven't had exposure to many enthusiast-grade switches yet, but so far I've tried Cherry MX Brown (my current driver on Vortex Race 3), mx blues, gateron browns, Razer's green switches (also very clicky), and cherry reds briefly (which the quiet-er noise profile leaves more to be desired).

I am looking forward to getting my NK Creams on a tofu 60% from KBDFans in a few weeks!
The creams will also be the first switches I put lube on, so I'm even more excited for that to come :)

Nice. Gateron browns are probably one of the better modern tactiles I have ever felt (no boutique switches yet, not a tactile guy). Haven't felt Razer's greens. I wonder how close they are to regular Kailh clickies, since Kailh did make them for Razer.

Creams are probably a great choice for linears. I'm sure you'll enjoy them.
