Newbie newbie newbie

Sup everyone.

I've been drooling over keyboards only recently. I've always had a passion for building things, I used to do arduino projects and raspberry pi breadboard stuff.. As a teen I was in electronics class and built pcb boards by hand with electric tape and etching. It was super fun. I even liked keyboards for a while, but generally I never could afford a really nice one. I only knew a bit about mechanical keyboards back in 201x and got myself a okay one, CM Storm Stealth with cherry mx blues.

I got it to satisfy that urge but now I've fallen back in love with keyboards. I keep watching keyboard build stream recordings on YouTube and checking the prices. I love soldering so I would be super excited to build my own but trying not to jump in too soon.

Anyway enough rambling. Hi!

Hi Supernyamo. Welcome to Geekhack.

Nice. You're going to fit in great here.

That's a slick looking board. I have a CM Quick Fire Rapid, and I love it. I have always liked those in-switch lock lights, in both new and old boards, and that black and red looks great. I would ditch the blues for some Kailh box jades though myself.

What switches have you tried? Which do you like?

Thank you so much for the welcome! I really would like the idea of changing out the switches, is that possible? Also, I had a quick fire rapid in which I ended up getting RMAed into this stealth. I really liked the rapid fire but when I opened my rma to find the stealth I thought it was super neat. It was RMA due to weirdness with Linux. Long story.

I've only tried blue and my partner's brown switches, otherwise I've never gotten to try any others. I would love to try as many as possible   ;D

You're welcome. It is certainly possible. I imagine that that board does not have hot swap sockets, so you would have to desolder the switches and solder in the switches of your choice. I have done it to a decent amount of OEM boards already myself. It helps a lot to invest in a nice electronic desoldering pump, like a Hakko

KPrepublic has a 130 switch tester although many of them are just RGB variants, etc. It doesn't have any expensive boutique switches, but it covers most of the rest of them.

I have a desoldering pump so that seems like a good idea. I'm going to have to look into that switch board but I fear that it will be that point of no return  ^-^
