Hello from Germany. My english isn‘t verry good but i will try my best for you

I‘m verry interested to build my first keyboard.
For my first try, the keyboard shouldn‘t be to expensive. I want to Start with round about 150€/~160-165$.
The case should be made by aluminum or something else(i don‘t like plastic) and the pcb should be a hot swappable 60%(maybe with rgb)

I made a List with some parts but i‘m not sure , i can get better parts by my budget or i done some great mistakes. Maybe you know some parts That i could  buy alternative.

Gateron Brown or Black Switches (should a newbie lube them?)
Keycaps are hard to decide. I love the Look of the GMK toxic but it seems to be impossible to get them or find other keycaps in this grey/toxic Green style.

There seem to be a lot of people who speak German, or a closely-related Germanic language, on here, so I imagine you'll be in good company regardless of your grasp of the English language.

I'm no fan of plastic either, besides polycarbonate, since it is pretty durable.

I don't normally do the kit/LEGO keyboard thing myself. You may want to post to ask about this in the Keyboards section of this forum. It gets more traffic, and is probably a more appropriate place for the question.

Personally, I just buy whatever's cheap but still has good reviews without any immediately glaring design flaws and has the features that I want.

Have you tried to use a 60% keyboard before? I know I couldn't get by without at least dedicated arrow keys myself.

What switches have you tried? You may want to purchase a switch tester before you make a choice of switches. Gateron browns and blacks are some of the better commercial linears and tactiles you could go with. I prefer Kailh's box linears and tactiles myself, ever so slightly, and Everglide switches are even smoother than those. I haven't tried any of the fancy/expensive boutique switches people seem to swoon over though either like NK creams, Alpacas, Holy Pandas, Halo switches, Kailh ink switches, Topre, etc.

I'm a clicky guy myself, so I don't bother to lube anything, not even stabilizers. That's another good question for your post in the Keyboards section.

Ich habe auch vor kurzem mit diesem PCB mein Keyboard gebaut. Ich wollte eigentlich meine Ausgaben gering halten. Leider habe ich hier und da Fehlkäufe gemacht. Deshalb empfehle ich dir genau zu überlegen ob du z.B. zwei Keycaps Sets brauchst.

Du solltest auf jedenfall deine Switches luben. Fühlt sich besser an und hat einen schöneren Ton. Schau dir ein lubing Tutorial an bevorzugt Taeha Types auf Youtube..."Vergiss beim luben nicht, weniger ist mehr". Du brauchst dabei weniger sorgen haben, schließlich kann man Fette einfach mit Wattestäbchen oder Stück Tuch säubern.

Bezüglich des PCB: Ich hatte Probleme mit ihm. Die Installation in meinem Gehäuse aus Holz ist nicht verlaufen wie ich es mir Gewünscht habe. Ich würde jetzt eigentlich mehr ausführen, aber soweit ich es verstanden habe kommt dein PCB mit zusammen mit dem dafür vorgesehem Gehäuse. Dann gibt es noch die Treiber. Treiber installieren, Tastatur ist gebaut und verbunden...aber es funktioniert nicht ? PC neustarten! Generell neue Treiber installiert, dann immer PC neustarten damit sie auch funktionieren. Die Treiber von diesem PCB sind sehr unpopulär in dieser Community. Beliebt sind PCBs mit QMK, mit diesen kannst deine Tastatur besser einstellen. Allerdings sind Hotswap versionen momentan sehr beliebt und daher nicht im Lager. Ich nehme an du hast vor dein PCB von Banggood oder Aliexpress zu holen. Das ist in Ordnung, aber die Lieferzeiten sind sehr lang.

Wenn du ein Link beifügst von wo deine Teile kaufen möchtest ist es einfacher Empfehlungen auszusprechen.

Jetzt nochmal zu den Keycaps. GMK Keycaps sind sehr teuer mind. 120€. Ich habe welche von YMDK auf Aliexpress gekauft. Sie sehen nicht sehr Ansprechend aus, aber ihre Qualität ist unschlagbar in dieser Preiskategorie. Wieso sind die von "guter" Qualität ? Sie sind ****, das bedeutet sie sind Stabil. Außerdem geben sie einen angenehmen tiefen Ton wieder den wir in der Community als "THOCK" beschreiben. Zum Material noch, Sie bestehen aus PBT das ist ein anderes Plastik als ABS wie sie in GMK Keycaps auftauchen. Außerdem ist der Ton von GMK Keycaps heller als PBT Keycaps. Unten füge ich den Link hinzu.
Weitere Keycap hersteller sind: KAT, JTK...Beide noch nie in den händen gehabt. Allerdings sind JTK Keycaps günstig und daher interessant für mich.

Um Lieferzeiten zu verringern würde ich vorschlagen Verkäufer aus der EU zu nutzen. Vorallem laufen aktuelle "Group Buys" über diese an denen du in Zukunft teilnehmen könntest.

Ich hoffe mit diesen Informationen dir geholfen zu haben. Ich hatte Schwierigkeiten in den ersten paar Wochen meine Gedanken zu sortieren, weil ich so viele Fragen hatte die ungeklärt waren.

With the reseach i've done, i think there is only https://www.pcgamingrace.com/ who does a hotswap ISO pcb. And then you'll have many choice for keycaps.

The Kit of PCB and case isn´t my first choice but it´s pretty hard for me to find a case and compatible PCB. I don´t know in which shops i have to look. i just found 3 or 4 shops and in this shops is nothing in stock.

I never tried a 60% keyboard. Currently i´m using a full size keyboard (Corsair K95) but i want to try something new and the full size keyboard is to large for my new desk and im using the pc most of the time for gaming. thats why i don´t need the Numpad and arrow keys.

At the moment i use MX Brown switches in my K95. i like the tactile switches but i heard that the Gateron should be smoother than the Cherry mx brown.

ich würde auch gerne ein anderes PCB nehmen da ich öffters schlechtes darüber gehört bzw gelesen habe.
ich befasse mich erst seit zwei wochen intensiv mit der Thematik und bin auch erst auf ein paar wenige shops gestoßen. vermutlich gibt es noch unzählige mehr ,die ich erst noch finden muss aber in den wenigen bis jetzt ,war so gut wie alles ausverkauft was für mich auch nur ansatzweise von relevants war. ich weiß leider nicht ob das der aktuellen Corona situation zu schulden ist oder ob es generell auf diesem weg für einsteiger einfach nichts gibt.

Das budget von 150€ war eig nur für case,pcb,plate und switches gedacht. die keycaps werden noch extra dazu kommen und ich bin mir bewusst wie teuer die GMK keycaps sind. ich hatte mich nur total in das design der Toxic caps verliebt und bin auf der suche nach alternativen die eine ähnliche farb kombination haben.

Am liebsten hätte ich schon längst bestellt und das gute stück zusammen gebaut aber leider habe ich nichts in deutsch sprachiger form zu dem thema finden können das mich irgendwie weiter bringen könnte. Abgesehen von deinem beitrag jetzt
Hast du evtl ein paar europäische shops die du nennen kannst oder weißt wo ich eine liste finden könnte? bis jetzt gucke ich eig nur bei aliexpress,banggood,kbdfans und candykeys aber das bringt mich nicht weiter wenn alles ausverkauft ist

In meiner Not war ich mehrmals kurz davor einfach eine Ducky one 2 zu kaufen und anschließend das case zu wechseln und neue caps drauf zu machen aber die hat dann immernoch kein hot swap pcb und die falschen switches am hals

Aliexpress usually has a good selection at good prices. I have used KPrepublic myself. People seem to generally like KBDfans. Mechanicalkeyboards.com is another option. Novelkeys is great, but mostly for switches. Amazon has parts as well, though selection may not be as good as more focused stores. I know I'm missing a ton, since I don't usually do the whole kit thing.

Right. I often wonder why I continue to use a full size keyboard with my gaming rig. Those K70s are just too sexy I suppose.

Yes, anything Gateron is generally much smoother than anything MX, and MX brown is where you're going to see the biggest difference. I mean no offense, but MX brown feels terrible to me, and to many others. They're lovingly called Cherry MX sand because the tactile event just feels like varying levels of grit. Gateron browns are going to feel much smoother, maybe the smoothest commercial (not expensive/boutique) tactile MX clone, which helps the tactile bump become easily perceptible. Everglides are even smoother, but I know people seem to have strong opinions about those, and I am not even sure if they should be put in the same category as your average Kailh, Gateron, Outemu, etc.
