Looks like a very nice project! Following for sure  :)
Are the manufacturers also in the UK?

The prototyping is being done in China at the moment, i've also been talking to manufacturers in the EU. I'd like to do it all the EU, just have to weigh up pricing at the moment.
Unfortunately i don't think it's going to be possible to keep the base kit price below $300 dollars either way.  :(

Will the GB production units be shipped directly from China or from the UK?

i'd hope from the UK so that QC is done by the runner
QFR | MJ2 TKL | "Bulgogiboard" (Keycon 104) | TGR Alice | Qlavier Ti/Acryl Alice

if you're actually reading other people's posts on geekhack in 2020 you're doing something wrong

Very nice design, so hard to find options like these with hot swap pcbs

Thanks! This doesn't support hotswap unfortunately.

They'll be shipped from me in the UK. We're still not sure if production will be in China or inside the EU.
I know having them shipping from the UK to people in the US isn't ideal but i wouldn't feel comfortable shipping a product direct from China without doing my own QC.

Here's a copy of the latest update from the site.

Pricing and Availability.
After the interest and feedback received, we’ve decided to double the batch size to 30 units. Hopefully doing this ensures people who want to be involved won’t miss out. Unfortunately, we have under estimated the cost per unit for a small batch and won’t be able to meet our intended price point. Each base kit will cost $400. This includes the case, plate, weight, and all necessary hardware. Shipping costs will depend on location and will be calculated at checkout.
These prices ensure we can run the group buy without taking a loss and continue to deliver future planned projects. Although we couldn’t meet our original intended price we'll still be able to deliver a high quality product at a reasonably low price considering the small batch quantity and materials.
Offering multiple colour choices and extra features like custom silicone feet and an internal brass weight make the cost per unit much higher with a small batch.

Changes and Improvements.
We’re still waiting for first prototype PCBs to land, but after receiving the first prototype case we’ve made multiple design changes for the second one.
Hopefully the second prototype goes into production next week.
We had some issues with our first manufacturer regarding the machining and finish quality, so we’ve moved to another company we’re hoping to use for the final production.

- Sprung Plate
We’ve changed the sprung plate slightly to lessen the flex. The edge channel has been reduces from 2mm to 1mm, and the outer edges around the corners have been removed as they seemed to have little effect. The bridges below the bottom row have been changed to allow the spacebar to have a more even feel.

- Base Plate.
We’ve added four extra screws to the base plate to help with acoustics. The size of the silicone feet has been tweaked slightly for aesthetic reasons.

Production PCBs will be black, not white.

This looks absolutely stunning. Even the use of Le Monde Livre – very classy. Hoping I can get in on this!

Please keep us updated about future, possibly larger runs when r1 is in the wild? Good luck with the initial run.

I’m new to this hobby, and I need to have a timeline a few months out to manage my budget. At the moment I’ve imposed a no more new boards moratorium on myself, I’m just buying switches, stabs and caps for what I already ordered and one or two other boards.

Hoping to get in on this as it is the only group buy from the UK and I love the board, so my shipping costs will be reduced as I'm also in the UK!

Also in the U.K, it's almost unheard of to have an opportunity to buy locally haha!

The second prototype arrived a lot faster than expected!
Machining and finishing quality is a lot better than the last manufacturer.
The new plate design is vastly improved. Big thanks to Crokto for helping with that.
I'm still waiting on some switches to arrive to build this up, hopefully before the end of the week.
The custom moulded feet are still at least a week away.

I'm really pleased with how the colours came out. I think they work really well together. I definitely want a full grey one.

Really looking forward to the grey, as that's the one I'm hoping to purchase. Hopefully I'm able to get in on this, I've even bought a keycap set for it!

Modern Dolch 2 and I'm about to grab GMK Rouge because I think the contrast between grey/purpleish-pink will look nice!

I'm actually so excited!!! Hopefully the RNG gods shine down on me. I wish there was a way in which supporters of a GB from an early stage were able to get the board before an open raffle. So many people just tell friends and they win and flip the board :(

I'm not sure about the time zone at the moment. I want to make sure its up long enough that people in all time zones can enter.

Digging the sound test and w/o any foam layers too eh. Can't wait. That UK to Asia shipping gonna be killer though. One step at a time—RNG first =)
