Hi from Ohio, Im pretty new to the hobby. I just bought everything I need to assemble my first keyboard. Its nothing rare or expensive, just something new and fun to learn about. I've been lurking on here for a few months and since parts started coming in figured I should finally make an account and get to know some of you guys.  Looking forward to everyone letting me know why the parts that I bought are horrible and how big of a casual I am  :))

HI PuffBus. Welcome to Geekhack.

It doesn't need to be rare or expensive, just what's most interesting/useful to you.

I would certainly hope that nobody would go into it with that sort of attitude. I don't really see it around here, and certainly didn't receive it when asking about parts for a 60% board, which is still out in the ether somewhere in China. Some people know plenty about keyboards, switches, etc, but know nothing about kit boards, or vice versa. We're all in this for an exchange of knowledge and ideas.

I'm interested in what switches you went with.

Gateron Blues. Ill admit, im a fan of the clicky sound. Initially I went with cherry blues but they were a few months out so i went with something that would ship sooner.

Haha. If you like the Gaterons, you'll like the Cherrys, but they're not so different that you should go out and buy a new keyboard for it. My preferred MX Blue clone is Outemu, but I do have some Gateron blues and I like them basically as much as the Cherrys. Very good! I approve! I think I have them in my Rosewill keyboard or something. I used that for quite a while. :D

Also, where in Ohio?

Thanks!
I'm pretty stoked for them to get here, they should be at my doorstep by tomorrow. I know a guy who has a laser engraver as well and I'm having him engrave my logo on the case for that extra custom touch. Also, North East, about a half hour south of Canton/Akron.

It sounds, to me, like you lucked out then. I like both Outemu and Gateron blues much more than the real Cherries. I put them on just about even footing, personally. I only have a single Gateron blue to play with, but it feels to me like it is just a slightly bit more consistent, crisp and smooth than Outemu. MX blues I can't stand anymore.

MX clicky clones are just on the cusp of acceptability in my book these days. Wait until you try some vintage clickies, and/or Kailh thick clicks.

Thanks!

That's cool as heck. I imagine you'll enjoy that board. I have always wanted some custom laser engraving, I almost had it done on a gaming laptop I bought.
