Leopold FC660M or Keychron K6
« on: Thu, 11 June 2020, 11:53:40 »
Hello,
I am currently deciding between these two boards and I would really like your help. I really don't know which one to chose. A lot of people say a lot of good things about both of these boards but I really don't know the difference. Does one of them have better stabs than the other? Is hot swap worth it? Is Gateron Reds worse than the Cherry Reds in sound and performance? If you guys could tell me what board you would pick and why that would really help me out.
Thanks,
Anthony

I take leopold over keychron any day, IF you dont need wireless. Keychron strong point is bluetooth connection while the build is mediocre. Leopold is solid with amazing stock caps, but wired

Yeah it really depends on what you value. I haven't used the K6, but I had a K1 that I immediately got rid of. That being said, the K6 has some extra functionalities that may be useful, like bluetooth and mediakeys (if you have a Mac). My girlfriend has a fc660m and if your priorities are build quality and keycap quality, I would not hesitate to go for the Leopold.

Agree with the others here -- if wireless is not important for you, get a Leopold FC660m. I used to have a K1 and also got rid of it, am now using the Leopold as my daily driver.

What's wrong with the Keychrons? I've only had a very short time looking at some in a store, but they didn't seem particularly bad. I didn't try to pick them up and flex the cases or anything though, just pressed the keys a bit and then left.

Nothing wrong, just saying when you put it up against Leopold then it stands no chance in term of build quality. Obviously the price reflect that quite well already.

Yeah exactly. The Keychron is a solid option in the beginning. I just realised that the K6 has (optical?) hotswap options, which is very useful if you don't know what sort of switches you are into. That being said, Leopold boards are regarded as one of the best pre-built boards. So it's less that the Keychron is bad, just that the Leopold is a very solid, albeit ultilitarian, option.  But if you feel particularly called by the Keychron, no reason to not give it a shot - specially for the price. Both will give you a pleasant experience and learning opportunities.

I don't own either, and don't particularly ever plan to, but between MX reds and Gateron reds, it is Gateron all day every day for me. I would rather have Gateron yellows though.

Leopold. I don't own a FC660m, but I have three FC980m's. Fantastic build quality. I have Cherry browns in them, and typing on the Leopold feels better than my other keyboards with the same switch.
