Alright, this irritated me somewhat, but the comments are hilarious:

Yeah yeah, it's old news, but I never heard of it before since apple products are given way too much positive light. I actually enjoy reading various comments from people who get the bad end of apple products.

Whining is either coils or caps. If it's coils slap some nail polish on there, if it's caps replace 'em with more reliable ones. That's basically the only revision whining should have needed, I'm guessing they decided to use this as an opportunity to sneak in some deeper fixes.

I had this particular model Macbook Pro (2006 series). I can confirm that "whining" problem. The first one I bought had the problem, apparently caused by some sort of inverter related to the LCD. It wasn't noticeable until you were in an absolutely otherwise silent place, but once you were, it was amazingly irritating. I took it back to the Apple Store, and convinced them to give me another one (not without some effort); that one was OK.

I could plug a million USB hubs into my WINDOWS laptop and it wouldn't blow up. And my WINDOWS laptops don't whine. And they run fast. And they were FREE.

The moral of the story? Don't waste your money on a Crapple computer.

Have to agree with MS Windows here, with the money you would spend on any Apple computer you can get the highest-end PC for the same price or cheaper.

Linux is generally far superior to Windows. It would be my primary operating system if, you know, anyone wrote software for it.

Nonsense, real men use commercial Unix.

Unfortunately as you journey up into the rarefied heights of 'good operating systems', you tend to lose the functionality required for a normal desktop experience. This is why I've gravitated back towards Windows from Linux for general stuff. Any sort of technical stuff and I'm back to Linux very quickly.

The thing about Linux is that after you use it for a while, you can reach a level of control over your computer that is impossible to reach on a Windows installation.

However, I still use Windows.

I would be interested to compare the old and new "logic" boards. The whining was almost certainly a coil for a VRM, or I read something about it being for the LCD inverter. If so then that's a manufacturing-side fix. If they need new driver software, then that implies to me a major onboard device change, perhaps a new southbridge or sound chip.

If there's mac stuff, take it and sell it (apple equipment is good for one thing; MONEY). There's a lot of loony people out there who pay big $$$$ for shiny plastic and aluminum.

I wouldn't like it. You'd need so much room to drive the damn thing anywhere. Plus it probably sucks lots of gas -- I'd actually prefer an electric car.

Cars and vehicles only serve to get me to point A & B. I'll probably buy a cheap $200 or $500 car for all I care. Maybe get some IBM deckles lol.

The t-bird is of course the same thing as the (non-Town Car) Continental. Beautiful cars.

SUVs have their place, but a lot of people who have SUVs would be better (or at least equally) suited by a large car like a proper station wagon or in some cases sedan like the Town Car.

So if you like cars that are inefficient, what's so bad about inefficient P4s?

I don't know about Canada, but in Ireland you'd have to sell your house to afford the tax on a car with a 7.5L engine...

That is completely different. I don't hate P4s for their inefficiency, I hate them because their inefficiency is so severe that it limits performance to that of an overheating underclocked Pentium II (the earlier P4s, that is).

AFAIK obtaining one of these is no different than any other car. Buy it, transfer the title, safety inspection. No emissions test because it's built before...um...1986 I believe is the year.

Insurance...that's a bit more tricky. Apparently 'historic vehicle' insurance (and the appropriate license plates) is the cheapest way to do it (and apparently quite cheap indeed - insurance in the hundreds of dollars per year range, rather than thousands of dollars per year range). That's intended for people with rare collectables which don't clock many kilometres but I've spoken to people who have their daily drivers set up this way without issue. It's pretty much necessary because normal insurance providers won't touch pre-emissions-test cars anymore.

Because we are are a communist country (bare in mind that one of Obama's ancestors was from Ireland, thus explaining the healthcare thing), cars with large engines are taxed for environmental reasons. I think it may be the case that the bigger the engine, the more the tax, but I'm not sure because I don't drive. There may/may not be some sort of exception for vintage cars over 30 years or so.

Our political system is a bit of a joke. It's rife with incompetence and cronyism. All the major political parties are center wing, and are basically the same thing.

Some for the US I guess, except our politicians don't have the same pretenses.

Waking Ned is an Irish film. It may have been filmed in the Isle of Man, but the story is set in one of Ireland's western islands.

There was a great Irish TV series called Father Ted (it was actually made by an English TV channel, but it was written by Irish writers, used Irish actors and was filmed in Ireland AFAIK). I'm not sure if it made it's way to the US, it's laced with that sort of subtle ironic humor that Americans are reputed not to understand...

I'm in the process of planning my next trike... it'll be... big.

Truck rear bogie, My own design front end, and either a V8 or V12 in the middle. Fairly cheap to build to... I think I can get it under £2000, including the various bull**** I need to do to make it road legal in the UK.
