Modding a KBP V60
« on: Mon, 15 June 2020, 10:34:32 »
I've got a KBP V60 that I've been planning to work on and I had some questions about how far I could go with it.
This is a standard, non-backlit keyboard. What sort of hoops do I have to jump through to make it backlit? Would it be easier to just buy a backlit V60 and transfer the switches into that board?

Secondly, I will want to swap the case at some point. I think TEX cases have adequate space for the V60 dip switches, but are there any wooden cases that will accommodate the board?

Have a look on the PCB - what's missing?  There needs to be a resistor for each LED (usually marked RXX) and obviously you need holes for the LEDs.  I can't believe they would make a different PCB but they might.

Depending what fancy effects it has it my also use a controller chip - are there any squares of traces where a chip could be soldered?

You can add resistors easily enough if they aren't there and if you can find a closeup photo of the chip they use you could add one but it might need some resistors, capacitors etc so that would be a fairly serious hoop.
