Ed Roberts died April 1, 2010
« on: Fri, 09 July 2010, 01:35:43 »
I was browsing around stuff and eventually went to the Ed Roberts wikipedia article. Well, if you look, he died a few months ago!

I wonder if Paul Allen ever repaid Roberts' $40 before his death.

Surely anyone up on their computer history knows who Ed Roberts is. This is Bill's reaction to Roberts' death:

"Good riddance!"

Well, this certainly caught me by surprise. But I guess Roberts never did anything in computers anymore anyhow.

Crazy.  He was the father of the modern computer age, and ended up studying medicine and becoming a small town doctor?  Warehouse 13 could have a field day with that. lol

Compare that with Gary Killdall, who died in a drunken bar-room brawl in a biker's den. What a man...

I'd be willing to bet that one of his 6 kids is an android, or at least a cyborg.

i can really respect that he left the industry to become a small time doctor.  One thing is having the financial freedom to do that; but the other thing is having the courage and desire and curiosity and idealism to do it, to jump away like that in mid-life.
