Since the blacks feel a bit stiff to me, the reds should be ideal... Also for gaming use...

Anybody use reds for typing? How is it working for you?

I also heard about accidental key presses being a problem, are you experiencing any significant amount of those? As long as the keys require ANY discernible amount of force I can't really imagine that as being a real problem?

On the contrary, in theory, shouldn't a lighter switch type enable you to type at your fastest possible speed?

This post was typed in Colemak, on my second day learning it, at just over 10 words per minute.

I'm typing on an MX11800 with "ghetto reds" right now. Ergonomics can be a pretty subjective thing. The reds are comfortable as hell for typing, and I may prefer them over browns. Linear switches are notoriously unpopular with typists, but the light-as-air nature of reds easily makes up for the lack of feel. Once you get used to them it's hard to go back.

Also, I type at my fastest with brown/red switches, there's no question about this.

I would think if you are talking about theory, browns would be faster for typing than reds. I have ghetto reds also I think they are great, my daily driver.

Would that 3494 you bought from eBay, as discussed in the relevant thread ?

If so, quite a few people might be interested in finding out if the item is up to the description

As you can see from the thread in the eBay finds forum, some people wonder if it's truely genuine.

I'm not shooting anybody....

I've read that entire thread like 4 times over the past days, even posted in it... I still don't see any reference to it being fake?

Also your protected via Paypal, so who gives a toss?

Having said that, they still haven't posted it, but said they'll do so by tomorrow morning... Not exactly the fastest shipping ever, but not terrible YET...

there is a factory of 1535 chinese virgins who create  copy cherry red keyboards, they only work on the 5th sunday of the month and use plastic made from oil scraped off the coast of florida. the location of the factory itself is only known by 2 other people worldwide, Oprah and Bill Gates. No discernable features can tell the genuine article from the fake unless you acid wash the case, where the fake has a piece of the last supper under the serial number. BUYER BEWARE.

Yeah - my problem with this is the guy's lack of english speaking clarity, who knows what you'll get. Cherry reds? Maybe. Double shots? Maybe. NKRO? Maybe not. Normal shaped enter key? Maybe. Black case or white case? Maybe.

It's a huge crapshoot, not at all worth it. Especially when you can make your own cherry red switches with a little effort and patience.

And what if you get the wrong keyboard? Well I'm sure the seller will be happy to refund your money... after you pay for shipping back to hong kong!

Concerns I do share, though I actually might take the plunge someday...

Yeah, the only thing I don't like is the Delete (also page up, down, pos1, end and so on) key being "bungled in" with all the other keys... I use it for deleting files all the time...

My 1800 keyboard may have blacks, but it's already a lot better to type on than my g15 gaming "keyboard"... :D

I sometimes catch myself writing more than I really have to just to be typing on it a bit longer, like this very sentence for example... ;-)

cool...

My guess is that they waited till they had a few orders and then buy it locally and ship it, so they don't have to do that every day for every single order...

Not exactly what I'm used to ordering on eBay, but if we payed THAT much just for a certain type of switch, we can certainly wait a few days for shipping... :D

I'm curious not only about how the boards are, but also how long it takes them to get to your door. For the price of shipping, I would hope it would be pretty fast lol.

Every time I have ordered something from HK, it takes about 1.5 - 2 weeks.  Usually, it's something like a phone charger, so it's no big deal, but with a keyboard, the wait would kill me.  I hate waiting a couple of days for something from elitekeyboards.

I've gotten things from Hong Kong faster than some in state stuff, but that was a wallet and a tie, so very light weight.  I think the only way it could have been faster was if it had been in Chinatown for me to brick and mortar shop.  I've had custom made stuff from China take about a week to make and a week to get here.  I dunno, the sellers were good at communicating expectations and meeting them.

Yea, I'd expect a keyboard wouldn't be so fast, especially since we expect, they took some of the cost in the shipping, not that they're actually using all that money for shipping.

Shipping/Packaging:
It was shipped HongKong post, and had 150 HKD(~20USD) postage on the package.  Packaging consisted of wrapping the Cherry retail box in some waterproofish paper plus some string.  A few corners were a bit crushed but the keyboard itself was no worse for wear.

I decided to try this one instead of buying another FKBN104M/EB since:
1. I'm using it on my new eyefinity setup, which will likely be used primarily for gaming.

2. Cherry Blacks always sounded a little heavy to me, though if I hadn't seen this I probably would've tried a FKBN104ML/EB.

3. One minor annoyance of my Filcos has been that they don't have enough of a bottom border to maintain optimum spacing between my double stacked wrist rests, and the keyboard.  I should cut a thin strip of wood or something one of these days...

Verdict, It's a keeper:
1. It's noticeably lighter weight than the Filco, but it's rubber feet keep it in place on my desk, and it doesn't feel any "cheaper" to type on.

2. Reds vs browns, it's a subtle difference, but the lack of a "bump" before/at the actuation point, does feel nicer when gaming.  For typing, the reds are slightly more reminiscent of rubber domes, but not nearly as mushy.  They would be much harder to not bottom out all the time when typing.

I can't compare them to blacks, since I've never tried them.  But the reds have enough resistance, that I don't think I'll be hitting keys by accident when resting my fingers on them.

4. I hooked it up with the PS/2 adapter and I can press, and hold any combination of keys and have them all register.  So the NKRO works as advertised.

5. The extra bottom border definitely helps maintain better wrist rest spacing.

6. The writing on the keys feels raised above the surface of the key-tops. They don't appear to be double shots, I'm not sure what they are.  It's almost like they used a really thick layer of plastic/paste to form the letters.  Though if that were they case I'd think they'd eventually be in danger of wearing off?  From what I read before buying, they're supposedly laser etched on this model?

I'll use it a few more days first, but I expect I'll be leaving positive feedback.

Oh ****e, I haven't even read that you received yours yet!

Well, other chinese stuff takes like 2-4 weeks to get here, so I'm in for the long haul anyway... Meh...

Using a 2,50 Euro (!!! Like 3,5 Dollars) 1800 Cherry board with blacks right now that I'm actually very happy with! I bought 3 of them, just for the hell of it... :D

Thinking about it: That my have been a move of genius! I'll just take the GERMAN keys of one of those boards and put them on the red switches, voila, a german keyboard with cherry reds, most likely the only one in germany... :D

Yeah, I think color is the only difference between red and black stems.

It's there any way to measure the spring? I can make a comparison  of the red and brown springs :)

I'd say the Cherry Brown Spring/Cherry Black Stem "Ghetto Red" is pretty close.

Does blue spring make that much of a difference, compared to brown ?

Of course the Cherry Red looks hotter but you would need clear keys to appreciate that.

Now there's a good idea for ClickClack! Clear keys would be sweet...

Mine arrived! Finally!

T'is what it looks like with the changed keys... I love the light feel of the keys! Best gaming keyboard I EVER used in like over 20 years now...
