hello! am new keeb nerd from sunny Singapore - nice to meetchu
« on: Fri, 09 October 2020, 04:00:23 »
Hi all! I'm stoked to find likeminded folk!

as an intro, here's a summarized account of my.. rather alarming 3 month journey down the rabbit hole.

        - Wanted a new keyboard and some quick surface research yielded the Ducky Mecha Mini which I ordered with cherry browns.
            - This next part is a bit hazy.. but I think shortly after I slipped on a bunch of youtube videos and.. never recovered.
-so..I caved and bought the Tecware Phantom Elite. Looking into hotswapping and modding probably did me in.
        - Somehow.. a couple of friends loaned me their keebs to fiddle with for a bit
            - Keychron K2
            - Vortex Tab 90
            - KBDfans NIU Mini (40% Ortholinear)
        - Have ordered
            - a GK68XS with PC case
            - a u80-A seq 2 (apparently it takes a year? what kind of industry is this)
        - Considering Thomas Baart's Kyria next
            - The ortholinear felt really off but I think with ergonomic split, I might be convinced to stick with it.
    - In this timeframe, I've also spent ungodly hours on youtube ASMR videos while I shower, bought soldering and lubing stations... purchased quite a variety of switches.. and just learned how to touch type after ugly typing all my life (because it goes well with this new hobby).
    - Guilt prevents me from tallying my total hobby spend thus far.
    - Also looking for like-minded friends in the space to share my delirium and my wallet pain. (hmu)
    - Finally also interested in things like personal knowledge management (pkm), 2nd brain and tools for thought.
    - Also started running again as I recover from injury - thank you Hoka OneOne.

It's lovely to be here with everyone, I want to thank the internet and geekhack for hosting and I can't wait to be nerdy with you guys. :thumb:

Welcome to GH :)

Yeah, a slightly alarming rate of acqusition, but it's heartening to see that you're exploring variety with weird ergo boards instead of staying on the 60-65%, milled aluminium bandwagon.

Also started running again as I recover from injury - thank you Hoka OneOne.

Running has got to be hard going in SG. Well done.

Thanks for the warm welcome Jams!

I have to admit, the orth ones are intimidating but I have a real curiosity about them. If I go ahead with it, I would hope to be able to switch between staggered and orth comfortably. The worst case scenario would see me getting confused all the time between the two so here's hoping.

Anyway, first step is my first diy build. I mentioned gk68 but a friend is motioning me toward gz65 from kbdfans because of QMK..unfortunately,
- Out of stock
- no polycarbonate case which is my material of choice for this build.

Still trying to get used to these weird groupbuys and constant out of stock situations with this hobby. :/
