Hobbyist Here, With a Few Questions
« on: Sat, 24 October 2020, 19:35:22 »
Hey guys,

banshee here. Fairly new to the hobby, but have been using a mech and similar "mech-like" gaming keyboards for a while now. I've got a few questions about Interest Checks and Group Buys and how newer hobbyists like me could get in and show off some of the projects I've been working on.

Currently using a heavily modified 1stPlayer MK6. Kailh Pro Purple stem in Outemu Blue housing (to retain hot-swap) lubed with 70/30 mix Super Lube 21030 PTFE Grease and 51004 PTFE Oil.
Dampened with super dense closed cell foam. Soldered in USB C Socket for use with custom USB Cable. Tai Hao double shot PBT shine-through keycaps. Love a full-size keyboard, as I use the
numpad quite a bit. Also love the volume wheel. Plan on getting the Ajazz K620T to try out a 60%, and still retain a volume wheel.

As for the questions I had.

I'm a long term resin caster, making resin toys and sculptures. I've done quite a few conventions and gallery shows along the east coast, but mostly selling on Instagram @banshee_toys.
I've been inactive for a bit due to moving several times this year and not having the motivation to work on personal projects. I have however had an interest in mechanical keyboards for quite
some time, mostly on budget mechs, artisans, and desk mats. I've been planning to create a custom mouse pad for myself, as well as some artisans in the future.

How would one go about setting up and IC for a desk mat without the risk of possible plagiarism from other members/onlookers? I know ICs and GBs come and go fairly quick, and would like to retain my ideas without the risk of them being stolen by other members or onlookers. Is there some sort of honour system, or is a copyright on design generally a smart idea before posting?
I've mostly done small runs of my own work, and in the resin toy scene things are kept pretty tight, so plagiarism is really frowned upon.

Along with the desk mats, I see 400x900x3mm is fairly standard for a desk mat, but I personally use a 300x900x3 mat. Would this be a popular choice or is the larger size generally a must have?

Sorry for the long dump as a first post, but big thanks for anyone who takes the time to read this and answer and questions I have. Glad to be a member of the community finally!
