I am new and I just wanted to say hello!
« on: Thu, 05 August 2010, 06:07:14 »
Hello!

Happy to find this forum and find fellow geeks :-)

I have ordered a FKBN105M/UKB (my first mechanical keyboard) along with red escape, W,A,S,D key caps !  Hopefully it will make a difference to my Logitech G11 (spilt a cup of water all ove rit, R.I.P. G11).

Sorry to bring an old (and possibly sore news) back, but I was wondering what happened to the Mini Guru and if anyone knows if there are any cool keyboards, similar that, coming up?

Ichi

Welcome to Geekhack!

That Filco will look much better on your desk than the logitech - nice choice.  You've come to the right place.  The question is what will be your next keyboard?

Sadly the miniguru won't be produced... I'm still gutted.

Welcome!

Upcoming cool keyboards? Well the XARMOR U9BL just dropped in some markets, it's backlit mechanical keyboard to compete with Deck. I'll be receiving a review sample, so hang around and watch for that.

My god that is a hot keyboard....

USB 2.0 hub > Steelseries 7G USB 1.1m
Cool back lighting, No silly missing Windows key, Multimedia keys.

Forgive my ignorance, why would iOne use Cherry MX Blues??  From what I have read, black is more preferable for gaming?

Ah, it is a TW product too :-) Maybe I can grab a cheap one when I am in HK on holiday :D

They're also going to release an MX Brown version. My guess is they just read Ripster's switch poll and chose the most popular. ;)

The Optimus Maximus is mechanical, it uses Cherry ML switches.

Well, I don't strongly dislike them. Strongly dislike would be what I apply to my old HP slimline keyboard, just above "****ING HATE" which I would apply to the one MY switch keyboard I used.

MLs just need the sticking issue fixed and they wouldn't be bad at all.

MLs are the low-profile switches that feel like scissor-switches except they stick if you hit them on a corner.

MYs are the leaf springs over membranes that feel like you're typing on bricks suspended in mud.

That's what I heard. *shrug*

And they aren't so much linear, as linear until actuation, and then "exponential".
