I don't think most of the people here liked the switches on those Optius Maximus keyboards anyways.

Art Lebedev is badass, but that board is for pussies, no matter the price.

I was under the impression that these boards use cherry ML switches.

looks about right... plus if you search this site, you will discover they are, in fact, MLs.

Any kick-ass ideas for usage of this keyboard? It's strength is not as a general-use check-your-email-keyboard...

I just thought there might e a more specific usage where this board might excel and be meant for, something other than the novelty factor.

well, you can tell at a glance that the middle button is the porn button. and easy to find in the dark.

No, no, no, no! That is a PRACTICAL benefit of the keyboard. I'm looking for a DESIGNED benefit....

apparently MS is experimenting with something along these lines, but on steroids:

The video below talks about exploring benefits btw. (what do you mean by 'designed' benefits?)

It would be hilarious if Microsoft added an option for "vintage" LCD key styles, with beige two tone colours lol. Probably not... but you could always get an image of a model M and do some fancy tricks to make it match up with the keys.

Another from their design team.

I recognize that Microsoft guy in the video.  Seen him before.  Can't recall his name.

But he's the evil dude who runs the entire "Accessibility" division for Windows.  Maybe not much of a division, really, since it's a bit of a one-man-show.  He designs all the interfaces which allows Windows to be used by handicapped, blind, deaf users.  (Though not the dumb users: Microsoft has other teams working on that.)  So now all you people who are really happy or really pissed with the way all the Windows Accessibility features function will know what your target looks like.

Anyhow, this suggests to me that 1) this keyboard concept will hit the market, and 2) they'll spin it as some kind of accessibility aid, ie: cost will be hugely inflated for no good reason and availability will be hugely limited.

And don't forget: it'll probably be some cheap rubber dome nowhere near on par with the optimus maximus.
