Forks are really just spoons that are better for poking foods without making a mess. I rarely have a reason to use a spoon. Spoons should all be replaced with forks, and melted down to make new forks... or bicycle frames. I like bicycles, too.

I actually agree, I never use spoons.

You can cut (say pancakes) with forks, they sift unwanted milk from cereal scoops, they're really universal cuttlery.

However, I really disdain chopsticks, I really don't like them.

Another thing that pisses me off is fancy cutlery, different sizes of spoons, forks, sporks, and whatever else. There should just be one size; I prefer smaller forks as my hands are fairly small. They also have to be weighted precisely to how I like them.

i remember when i was 10 i saw a pair of japanese chopsticks and wanted to give them a whirl cuz they were pointier and i thought i could be lazy and stab food. Turns out it was more difficult to use than regular chinese chopsticks, i still used them for 4 years cuz i thought they were cool.

Technically forks are improved knives not spoons. Better at passing food to the mouth of course.

I've always found it particularly tedious eating soup with a fork.

That's can be a tough one, especially with soups such as tomato soup.

Maybe you don't have a use for spoon because of your culture. But other people do use spoon a lot. I eat rive with a spoon. It's much more effective.

Good luck having soup with a fork.

Personally, I am kind of a social chameleon. I use a knife and fork where western style food is served, a spoon and a fork in some restaurants and at home, chopsticks in Asian restaurants, and my fingers in Indian restaurants.

i use spoons for cereal and soup, but thats about it.

i use a fork with oatmeal. i use a fork with yogurt too.

maybe sporks are a good compromise? we could get rid of the entire forks-n-spoons market and only manufacture sporks.

Sporks aren't good judging by how they look. Essentially they are just preforated spoons.

Forks still win.

I propose a challenge:

#1 Try eating meals for a week with only a spoon
#2 Try eating meals for the next week with only a fork.

We shall see which is better. Oh and on the third week you can try a spork if you're really crazy.

I've always preferred the Knork myself. A superior implement in the hands of a master, especially when cutting the aforementioned pancakes or steaks. It's all you need.

If one Knork is as useful as two chopsticks, then double-Knorking is just plain awesome!

It's ridiculous to use cutlery on stuff like soup. Just drink it. Actually it's ridiculous to eat soup at all. Either way, spoons serve no useful purpose except for perhaps carving pumpkins for annual holidays.

There was this guy on a food show on Discovery Channel that had built his own utensil, which he called "The Utensil". It combined a spoon, fork, knife and drinking straw all into one.
Perhaps it had more functions than this... Bottle opener would have been handy also.
