PS/2 -> USB Adapter for the SGI Granite 9500900
« on: Wed, 01 September 2010, 04:49:23 »
Is there any adapter that works perfectly with the SGI Granite 9500900 Keyboard?
On the dedicated wiki, I only see one to be said to work with this keyboard.
I would love to plug the granite on an aluminum iMac running Arch Linux!

The Belkin USB adapter does the job for me. A lot of other types will fail though, including the "Blue Cube" that is rather popular around these parts.

This one?

So, you're not getting any of the artifacts listed in the wiki?
Also, I was wondering if the granites "Made in Ireland" were as good as the "Made in U.S.A." ones?

Yeah, that one, it works just fine.

AFAIK, only the casing and the final assembly was performed in the US or Ireland, the switches and PCB were made in Korea or Taiwan.

I recently got my hands on two SGI Granite Keyboards. I like them a lot, but I'm having trouble with the USB-PS2 adapters as well. I have beige 'Cypress Semiconductor' (Product ID: 0x2324 Vendor ID: 0x04b4) adapter that mostly works, but occasionally keeps sending the last key pressed over and over again until I press another key. I also have the Blue Cube and a Belkin adapter (identical to the one pictured above) that is seen by the computer as internally the same as the Blue Cube, and both are almost non-functional with this keyboard. Many key presses are not registered and when they are, it's often the wrong key etc.

The SGI units I have are the 'Made in USA' on the outside 'Made in Korea' on the inside ones, with manufacturing date from mid-1995.

Computer is a 27" Core i7 iMac running OS X 10.7.3.

If anyone knows an adapter that will work reliably with these, I'd be appreciative.

Matters aren't helped by there being more than one 'Belkin converter', that all look identical.

The SGI is a strange beast. I had to make certain changes in the code for my converter, that weren't needed for other keyboards.
