Left Control keycap for Filco Majestouch
« on: Thu, 02 September 2010, 11:04:06 »
I'm going to be getting a Filco Majestouch soon (probably the tenkeyless with browns). Obviously I'm going to be remapping the Caps Lock key to be Left Control and was wondering if there was a good replacement keycap available. In other words, I want a left control keycap that fits in the caps lock position and matches the other keys as closely as possible.

Also, if stupid questions are permitted, how the hell do you change keyboard shortcuts in Windows 7? I run linux 90% of the time but boot into windows for games. I want to map keyboard shortcuts for things like volume up/down since I don't use a keyboard with multimedia keys. I know the registry trick for remapping caps lock, but I don't know what to do to map chords to specific functions (e.g. windows+something for volume control).

I'm borrowing a friend's full-size Majestouch to get a feel before I jump to buy (backordered anyhow, harrumph). After so many years of my old keyboard, I need some serious retraining.

The distance I have to travel to my mouse with a full-size keyboard is just wrong! I hope the tenkeyless is compact enough; I'm not crazy about the layout of more compact keyboards. If only the HHKB Pro had the second layer arrow keys on HJKL or at least IJKL. :tsk:

In use, they feel pretty natural where they are.  I hear ya on the size thing.  I would still be using the HHKB as my main 'board, but the Topres in the HHKB feel nothing like the Realforce.

I guess I could get used to them (there's noting keeping me from using them on my Lite 2 save the mini arrow keys), but I half the day in vim, so HJKL would just be so sweet for the other half, ya know? I was so sad about the demise of the Miniguru. Hopefully tenkeyless will be a reasonable compromise between compactness and conventionalness.
