How would you lock the windows key on your filco?
« on: Thu, 02 September 2010, 18:42:33 »
Been using a filco blue cherry tenkeyless as my daily driver recently..

Ok so now my windows key has caused me to lose 2 games in starcraft.  Stupid swap to desktop and it takes forever to switch back therefore resulting in disconnect.  *rage*

Whats the best way to get rid of this stupid windows key, map it to nothing via autohotkey?  Is there such a thing as a key lock for filco, like there is for topre?
My keyboards: Filco Cherry Blue Tenkeyless(daily home), Compaq MX11800 (modded to blacks), Compaq "MX 84u",  Wellington\'s Dampened Endurapro, Pinkalicious Filco Blue Cherry, Chicony KB-5191, Chicony KB-5181, Desko MOS 5023 UP "elbowglue" spos (modded to blues), Siig Minitouch (monterey blue), SMK-88 (blue cherries), Ricercar SPOS

I used Kmapper(registry remap) to switch the left-win key to caps lock and the caps lock to backspace. It works through games since it's registry.

That way I have two backspaces and a more efficient deletion of text when typing. Though I've said it before it does create quite a bit of muscle memory and often times you find yourself hitting other people's caps lock thinking it's backspace.

Just in case you need caps lock though really you can remap it to anything.

Thanks for the link Rip.  Although $23 shipped is kinda painful.  Although looking at those I can probably make my own with a cut piece of pipe... hmm.

If all you want is to disable the key completely, just rip off the cap.

It'll still actuate if I hit the bare blue cherry stem even after the keycap is gone..

Anyone have a topre on hand and can see if the topre key-lock will lock the filco windows key?  Maybe I can buy one of these topre key locks off someone who dosen't use it.

If we're talking SC2, you can disable the Windows key in-game. Just go to Options -> Gameplay and check "Disable Windows Key."

What I do is have an AutoHotKey script that starts with a keyboard shortcut, and it remaps the windows key to Scroll Lock. I can then map that key to an in-game command, or to activate the mic, which is good because the bump on the win key make it easy to find.

actually I am pretty sure all you have to do is load AutoHotKey. I think the default Function Key is L-Windows which disables it.

you can create a batch file to open AutoHotKey and Game or create a macro to enable/disable the L-Windows Key with AutoHotKey.

There is an option in sc2 to disable the windows key in the options menu. there is also an option to disable alt-tabing.

EDIT: I noticed you didn't say sc2 but the original. so I guess it depends on the version.
