Probably budget jwks, the black linears, jwick yellows. SP stars also pretty nice for that clack

Out of the switches I own, JWK Giant V3's or SP Star Meteor Whites, both are great options :)

i'm very new so i've only tried a few, but i like novelkeys' linears. their creams are pretty well known and generally thought decent, and i liked the feel when i tried them out. i personally have nk silks olivias (because creams sold out fff) and i like their weight. i think they're a bit higher pitched than creams, though i have not directly compared, but that can be adjusted by modding.

My favorite is the Gateron linears, KS8 Gateron yellow to be specific.
It's very smooth and affordable, the difference is not night and day against something like the Durock POMs or any of it's linears (when both are lubed, stock is a different thing), they're better and cheaper than Akko's linear switches even when both are lubed, though for some reason the Akko linear switches really took off as the number one budget linear switch, maybe because of the very loud sound they make.

Other than that I'd probably go with the Durock linears, they're pretty smooth even more when lubed, I also really like they sound they produce, and the stem wobble tolerance is phenomenal.
But it has some annoying drawbacks, I really dislike that they are heavily factory lubed and relatively expensive, and their off center presses aren't as smooth when unlubed, even KS8 Gat yellows have better off center presses when both are stock.

Honorable mention to the Ink series, smoothest stock, off center is as smooth as it gets, stock Ink black was almost indistinguishable from a lubed Gat Yellow (I use 3204), didn't bother to lube the only sample I got, spring is pretty crunchy but I guess it's due to it having no or less factory lube, stem wobble isn't as good as the Durock but it's not bad by any means.

If you go to the likes of reddit you'll see many advocate for either tangerine c3's or alpaca's. Personally I bought a set of alpacas for my alt that I was pretty disappointed with overall. There was a lot of inconsistencies between switch feel/sound. Some even seemed out right bad feeling, more like a cherry brown then a linear switch. In fairness I don't have the time to lube so I'm running stock, they may fair better if you relube all of them. All in all I think I tossed 10 or 15 switches out of the ones I purchased, with that said they're much cheaper then some of the "premium" switch options out there.

My latest tofu65 build I wanted to try tangerines, but they had recently sold out so I went with turquoise tealios (I prefer the ~62-63g bottom out switch weight). I love these things. Stock they're extremely smooth, but come at a massive premium. I would say overall they are slightly smoother then my alpacas especially given that I don't think these come with any factory lube. I also enjoy the additional 1.5g weight, which unexpectedly felt more noticeable weight wise when compared to alpacas. I picked up mine during a black friday sale which helped offset the cost quite a bit.

I don't think alpacas are bad especially given the cost compared to my tealios, but comparing the stock feel of both the turquoise tealios are a step up.

That's JWK, weak housing that deforms when removing the switch from the plate, loose housing parts that requires filming to not have rattly sound (or becomes loose after opening), spring crunch, heavy leaf ping that can't be minimized.
BTW their switches comes soaked in factory lube (oil), Alpacas too, and it's not a good one.

Their switches are good for the price but have quite a bit of QC issues, I have some switch samples from Durock and all the switches were inconsistent, one of the linear switch activated way earlier than usual, T1 samples I got in the beginning of the year had different tactile feel from each other (some felt stronger, some felt weaker), I got new samples recently of the Sunflower tactile (POM T1?), Durock medium and more T1s, they all have this sluggish feeling, can't explain it, also the 2 sunflower switches I got had different feel of tactility as if one of them is heavier like the T1.

Maybe they have different molds for the linear switches because their linear series is very solid, housing is great and stem wobble is phenomenal, or improved their method of manufacturing since my experience with them, though that series have their own set of issues I mentioned earlier.

Their best so far is the Piano switch (POM linear), great stem wobble, super smooth out of the box, and can be purchased without factory lube and is still very smooth with zero lubrication, though I don't like the long pole..

Just got into frakenswitching recently. It is an entirely different rabbit hole of its own... Send help!

Making BCP's right now with husky stems. (Husky Pie)

Am currently using a UHMWPE (Ivyr) Stem in Cream housing and am loving it. It's very smooth and marble-ly.

How is that acceptable to people? I  guess they don't even attempt to use them stock? Maybe the pricepoint? theremingoat I believe does stock switch reviews, which many trust and funny enough he never seems to mention these issues. Actually he even complained about the teailios springs when compared to the tangerines if I recall correctly. I have seen complaints about inconsistencies on the aqua kings, but not the alpacas. I honestly thought I had a bad batch of alpacas or something. I would like to still try tangerines at some point, but your comments are certainly making me reconsider.

Well for once have you looked at the mechanical keyboard subreddit? That whole sub revolves around pretty images, GMK keycaps, group buys and aggressive marketing of said GBs, hype, countless recolors, dozens of switches that mimic the Holy Panda, useless aesthetics trends (artisan keycaps, coiled cables, etc), and occasionally, drama.
They jump on every GB available, just look at the dozens of GB for switches that are probably just using the same molds but with different colors.

The consensus is to automatically lube and film switches, combine that with the fact people barely share any knowledge or discuss things in the MK community. this kind of issues probably slip through the cracks.

In the end while I personally don't find the higher end switches to be that of a step up from my Gat Yellows (when lubed) to get a pack, they do have a difference when comparing side to side so I can understand why people want them, even if the difference isn't huge, it's better, I don't know about the Tangerines though, havn't had the chance to try them to see if they're that good as people claim them to be.

Thermingoat is relatively objective I sometimes read his reviews too, he has many switches but he's not through enough imo, he doesn't focus on many aspects that are very important, especially [build] quality, and his lists aren't categorized sufficiently, I could go on but I have nothing against the guy.
Also someone correct me if I'm wrong but AFAIK his reviews are based on samples? he doesn't have full packs for every switch and actually use the switches for a while.

Overall, it doesn't surprise me at all, gathering info is really hard in the mechanical keyboard community despite being huge.
A funny example I see is the diversity in switch description, in the rare discussions you'll encounter on Reddit you'll often find people using their few or even single switch and basing their knowledge on it and YT reviews, describing the same switch, heavy, medium, sharp, round, short, long, has pre-travel, no pre-travel, etc, with zero comparison to other switches so other people could gather an idea..

I don't think this is what you want to hear—but strictly answering your question, I'm pretty stoked on the linear Hall Effect switches on the SteelSeries Apex Pro. They're some of the smoothest I've ever used (including all the fancy modded ones). To me, they feel very much like the HE switches on classic terminal boards of the '70s. The board also has a global setting that lets you adjust their actuation point, which is very cool and surprisingly practical.

You can't get the switches alone, though, for other boards—oh well [shrug].

The OPBlacks are almost everything I would want in a switch, smooth keypress, high pitched cherry-like sound, good housing collisions, not too over-the-top look, and from a well-known manu. The only thing I would like with it is maybe some anti-interference housing, and a lighter spring and that's pretty much all
