Everyone loves buckling springs

I had my family (mom, step-dad, sister, grandma) all sit down and try out my keyboards. I let them try everything in my collection plus an MX blue board, and all four of them picked the buckling springs as their favorites, followed by MX blues, browns, the NMB rubber dome, and MY switches in various order. My grandmother said it reminded her of typewriters; my sister said "it just feels right". My mother complained about the MX blues hurting her fingers (bottoming out?) and said the SMKs felt "sticky". Jeff gave no reasons, but praised the Model M on its solid feeling.




Four people with no interest in keyboards, and they all immediately picked the IBM Model M as their favorite. IBM got something right.

Anywho...

Many of my family members unfortunately did not particuarly take to the model M. Honestly though, I think it had to do 100% with the amount of noise it created. Because all of them liked the key action, can't win them all I guess.

It probably helped that we did this test in a well-funished family room with the TV on low, so the noise wasn't as noticeable.

I remember my uncle visiting me and saying how much my keyboard my smooth after typing on my Customizer 104. Buckling spring has something unique about them and if one has not tried the various other switches before, they feel so good.

I was very very happy when I first got my Customizer after years of typing on a rubber dome keyboard.

Vegemite was intended to be a cheap substitute for Marmite.  I can't imagine it being even remotely palatable considering what Marmite tastes like.  Marmite crisps on the other hand are lovely, mostly because they taste exactly the same as the beef and onion ones.

I wouldn't mind trying a Model-M again some day, but considering their age, origins and the number of past users, i'd probably be safer licking a public toilet seat than handling a very old keyboard.
